"How was it? How was it?" Danielle and Lucy stood in the way and caught her when Chloe walked out from the elevator.

"It was um... how it was." Chloe thought that maybe her career in the Cleveland’s was about to be over.

"Did the president scold you?" thinking of herself being badly scolded by Christopher all the time, Lucy asked for some info with her eyes brightened.

"It doesn’t matter if I have been scolded or not..." she thought about the scene when she put Christopher’s coffee on his desk by mistake and answered Lucy with a pathetic face.

"Oh, I am... really sorry... for the trouble I’ve caused you..." Lucy gave her an unnatural smile and patted her on the shoulder.

    "You are welcome..."

Danielle exchanged a glance with Lucy and the two of them just left. Chloe went back to her desk and looked at her stuff. There weren’t too many of them, so if she got fired, it wouldn’t take too long and be too tiring to pack and clear.

She was at her work but her mind was messed up, had she just said no to the president?

It was the end of the day and only a few of her colleagues in the company had stayed. Chloe, being one of them, leaned over her desk and looked at her cactus.

"I envy you, you can take root wherever you are..." she thought about Danielle and Lucy again and started self-pitying that why she always had to be the one that got into trouble.

And, the words of a fortune teller when she was little came into her mind. He said that she was of a straightforward and honest nature and would easily got tricked or cheated, she would even got herself into big trouble if she doesn’t be careful. So from then on, Chloe kept one thing in mind, just walk away when got hit on by strangers, never go too deep into a street, and always put safety first, don’t ever get taken in by strangers!

And the fortune teller had turned out to be right. Chloe once transferred three hundred dollars to a stranger on the internet who claimed that his father was seriously ill and he could not afford it, and naturally he turned out to be a one hundred percent liar. And more ridiculous was, she and her bestie almost got themselves into a strange organization once. Thanks to her dad who found something wrong with her when she asked him for money, he looked into it and found it was a cult. The police got it under siege few days later.

Chloe felt that if she kept recalling all these bad memories, it would only make her more desperate in life, so she organized the files on her desk, did some cleaning and left the company.

"Hello, Liam, got time for a drink?"

"I’m still at work now, and there will be a business trip within a few days so I am sorry, maybe next time, are you OK?" Liam Channing asked with a little guilt in his voice, which made Chloe felt guilty too because Liam was work so hard and she was not being sensible, calling to bother him.

"I’m sorry, you go back to your work, we can talk later." Though she really wanted to see him and talk about what had happened to her internship in the company, Chloe still told him to focus his mind on work and not to worry about her.

"Sorry that I haven’t been able to spare some time to see you, I’ll make up later!" she could hear sincerity in his words and felt more sorry for him that he worked so hard.

The city started to light up, and everyone and every car was in brilliant colors. Chloe walked alone in the street and felt much better suddenly. She decided that if the president started to pick on her because of what had happened today, she should resign and leave. God has prepared a position for everyone in this world anyway!

Chloe walked along the most bustling street from one end to the other, killing time by taking her time leisurely, so she could only catch the last buses and went back to her little room!

Not far away in a fancy car, Christopher watched her walked from one end of the street to the other the whole time. He saw her waited for the bus and smiled once in a while, which sort of touched him. It seemed that she could be easily satisfied and pleased.

"Hello, Vincent, I need your help. Get me the whole information about this girl named Chloe Elwood, a staff in our accounting department."

"What? Why? Since she’s in your company?" he could heard the displeasure in the voice of Vincent, who was watching a brilliant movie after all.

Christopher made a curve at the corner of her lips and gave a number, "ten thousand bucks."

    "Of course, it’s on me!"

After the call, Christopher watched the bus drove way, or technically, he made sure she’d gone home, then he stepped on the gas and went home too.
