Jasper's ears turned red because of shyness. He was at a loss now when he looked into Veronica's eyes. Lawrence standing behind him burst into laughter while Anna covered her mouth, eyes widened in surprise. She soon realized something. So she bantered, "Oh, are you, Jasper? I'm so glad to hear that. Lawrence and I were being reckless to rush here. We thought something terrible happened. Sorry for the interruption. We didn't know your plan. Well, we'll leave here right now. You two have a good talk." After she finished her words, she shot a serious stare at Veronica, indicating her to behave well. Then she turned to her husband. "Let's leave now." Lawrence nodded and then walked out of the room with his wife.
Jasper was stuck in embarrassment. Slowly, his face blushed. Now, he even did not have the courage to look at Veronica. So he fixed his eyes on his own hands while rubbing his hands nervously.
Veronica saw everything. Letting out a cold chuckle, she felt tired of these fake faces; her mother's, her father's, this handsome man's. Her hands shivered violently as if she was about to blow up. No, I can't do it now, she thought. Taking a deep breath, she reached out, took the sharp fork with her right hand, and pricked the back of her left hand.
The sharp pain numbed her body. She gritted her teeth and closed her eyes. A burnt face with wrinkles allover and light blue eyes appeared in her mind. He was looking at her worriedly.
Where was he now?
Veronica opened her eyes all of a sudden. The sumptuous dining table came into her sight. Nothing had changed. The blood ran down the back of her hand and trickled down onto the white dining table. The redness was frightening and striking.
'No, no. This can't be real!' she muttered to herself quietly. She was panic now. Having no more energy to take care of the bloody hand, she stood up and ran out of the dining room, leaving Jasper alone.
Lawrence and Anna were sitting on the couch, watching the news on the television. Upon hearing the sound of high heels, they immediately turned around. Before they could realize what happened, Veronica had already run out of the door.
There were blood stains left on the ground along the way where she had been.
The house of the Rou family was a big one. It took her several minutes to approach the gate and finally get out of the house. Once she stepped out, she saw a spacious road and there were cars passing by occasionally. She was totally dumfounded.
She could still feel the pain on her hand. What just happened flashed through her head. It was so real. She couldn't help squatting down with one of her hand pressing against her chest, panting. "I've come back," she whispered. This was not a dream. It was real. She was reincarnated!
She burst into laughter as tears rolled down her cheeks. She raised her hand to wipe the tears but the blood stained her face. She looked so poor yet terrible.
In her past life, she had dreamed thousands of times that if only she could come back to the age before everything began. She had sworn that she would take revenge and would not allow that fire engulf her! She would definitely make them pay for what they had done to her. She wanted blood for blood.
She had thought that she would be thrilled if she came back. But still the pain in her chest told her that she wasn't willing to leave him alone. He was the one who had stayed with her for thousands of lonely and heartbroken nights. She could not bear it if she was unable to see his light blue eyes anymore. These cold and lonely nights were the precious time they had shared together.
On the other side, Jasper grew worried as he looked at the blood on the ground. He followed the blood stain and ran out of the room, only to see Veronica cry and laugh at the gate. Her hand looked terrifying with blood everywhere. But she did not care. She just squatted there, crying and laughing in turns. This was a horrible scene. But somehow, he felt his heart hurt a bit.
He approached Veronica and stopped in front of her. Slowly, he kneeled down and embraced her into his arms. He stroked her back gently as what Anna would usually do to comfort her. As a matter of fact, he had no clue why Veronica was so sad. But sadness seemed to fill him up too. His eyes grew red as well.
Lawrence and Anna hurriedly ran towards them, panting.
