Veronica raised her hands and saw a pair of pretty, delicate hands with slender fingers. Her fingernails were carefully trimmed. She turned her palms up and saw her fingertips showing a healthy pink color. They were absolutely beautiful as if they were some delicate artwork in the camera lens. She reached out and grasped a black hairband before she turned to Anna and said with a smile, "I want to use this today."
Anna raised her head upon hearing Veronica. She frowned slightly at the sight of the simple black hairband. She was an expert at hiding her true feelings so Veronica could hardly notice them. Anna took the bang away from her daughter and demanded in a serious tone a loving mother would rarely have, "No, Veronica. You have already wasted a lot of time today. Don't behave ridiculously now. Just do as I just said."
When she was taking the hairband from Veronica, her fine fingernails skimmed through one of Veronica's pink fingertips. It became a little bit red and Veronica felt hurt. The pain soon was delivered to the heart. Veronica put one of her hands against her chest. She felt her heartbeat and also felt her heart prickle.
However, she remained smiling without saying anything to object.
It took Anna an hour to dress Veronica up. Now, Veronica was wearing a pink short skirt with a pink make-up style. Her soft and long hair spread at her back casually with curl ends. A silver crown was clipped on her hair. A diamond on the crown was reflecting lights. She wore a pair of pink shining high heels. Despite the height, Veronica felt that she had no trouble walking in the high heels.
She and Anna who always wore a soft smile appeared upstairs. Immediately, Jasper Sheng, who was sitting on the couch downstairs, stood up and locked his eyes on Veronica. With one of her hand holding Anna's arm, Veronica walked downstairs slowly. The stairs were made of polished marble. She walked elegantly and finally stopped in front of Jasper Sheng.
Jasper Sheng stretched out his hand, held Veronica's, lowered his head and left a gentle kiss on the back of her hand. Then he raised his head and said with affectionate eyes, "Here you are, Veronica. You look so pretty today." Lawrence Rou, Veronica's father, who was sitting on the couch, put down the newspaper he was reading. He always wore a serious face. But now a smile crept on his lips the moment he saw her daughter. He smiled and said, "All right, Jasper and Veronica. Go and have breakfast now before you leave the house. And have a good time today."
Jasper Sheng had larges hands. He took Veronica's hand and walked towards to dining table as if a prince was taking his princess to the sanctuary of marriage.
Veronica felt the different way, however. She felt her hand which was holding Jasper's burning. It all felt like the day when she was engulfed in the ferocious fire. The heat waves trapped her completely and the fire sprayed on her body. She felt so much pain. Veronica's smile faded. She pulled her hand away from Jasper.
Jasper was struck dumb for a few seconds. But he didn't think too much. Thinking that Veronica might be shy, he smiled gently and followed behind her.
Veronica's breakfast consisted of only a soft-boiled egg. Beside the egg were the shining, reflective knife and fork.
In front of Jasper Sheng was a piece of delicious well-done steak. It gave out charming smells. Apart from the knife and fork, there was a cup of warm steaming milk standing next to them.
They sat opposite, three meters between them. Jasper then smiled at Veronica and pulled the chair before he sat down to enjoy the steak.
Veronica took a look at his breakfast, and then hers. How stupid she had been in her past life! This was more than obvious that her dear parents liked Jasper more than her, as shown by the different breakfasts. However, she had not realized it at all and only thought that she was a girl and that she was not supposed to eat so much in the morning. Sneering secretly in her heart, Veronica decided to focus on her breakfast at first. She forked the egg. The yellow yolk came out. Suddenly, she felt rather hungry. So she dropped the fork on the table and spooned the egg before she swallowed it. Part of the yolk dripped down the corner of her mouth onto the white napkin, leaving a conspicuous mark.
Jasper opened his eyes wide in surprise, as what he had done in her dreams. He had not seen such a rude Veronica before. He stopped eating his breakfast, his hand holding the fork stopping in the air. There was still a piece of steak forked on the tool. Staring at Veronica, he murmured, "Veronica…" Before his voice faded, his fork dropped to the dining table, causing a sharp noise.
Veronica took a piece of napkin and elegantly wiped the yolk left on the corner of her mouth off.
Anna and Lawrence heard the noise. They rushed into the dining room and saw Jasper dumfounded. This shocked both of them. Immediately, they began to apologize to him.
With her eyebrows knitted, Anna walked towards Veronica and asked in a reproachful tone," What did you do, Veronica? You upset him!"
Veronica, on the other hand, just put a deaf ear to her mother's reproach and did not make a reply. She even did not raise her head. Instead, she took a sip of her water and then asked Jasper, " What day is it today?"
Jasper came to his senses at once. He adjusted himself and sat straight before he wiped his mouth with the napkin. Then he replied with a soft voice, "Don't you remember it? It's May twentieth."
The smile on Veronica's face grew wider. She felt all this was just too crazy and ironic. "So, you are going to propose to me, right?"
