    “I…”

Being asked in this way, Carla Lan did not know what to say. She hesitated for a while, then continued, “I don’t mean to make troubles here. I just want to remind you that we don’t know anything about Nell Su’s background, but as far as I know, she was born in a poor family. She might want to stick around rich people to get some benefits. That’s why she wants to stay with you and your brother by all means.”

“You have made an investigation on her? How do you know that?’

Carla told him something that he did not know which made Tam Gu kind of curious. How could she obtain that information?

Moreover, she did not work. Carla was merely a housewife. How would she know more than me?

Carla slightly rolled her eyes. Then she explained patiently, “You really have forgotten that I was in human resources industry before. Certainly I have more resources than you do. It would not be difficult if I want to investigate a person, I just need to make a few calls.”

Carla told Tam about her achievement proudly which disturbed Tam. He only gave a small nod to end the conversation, then lowered his head and put his dinner into his mouth. Tam did not want to further discuss about this topic.

“Can’t you say something more about it? Talk about your views on her intention? ”

Carla was a bit grumpy when she saw Tam’s couldn’t care less attitude to her investigation. In fact, Carla initiated this conversation with a malicious purpose which might probably start a fight, but Tam’s sloppy attitude did piss her off.

“So, what do you want me to say? Or I should kneel down to say sorry? What do you want from me?”

Tam swallowed his food. Then he looked up and said with lots of impatience. He looked at Carla scornfully, “I don’t care why you want to tell me about it. You want to remind me or for any other purpose. I don’t care. Let’s put this conversation to an end. I don’t need you to tell me what to do. I can handle properly. And I am not a kid. I Don’t need you to help me to do everything.”

    “Alright…”

Carla knew that she had almost touched Tam’s bottom line which made her afraid.

Carla was too confident that she had complete control over the situation as she got concrete evidence on her legitimate inference. She did not expect to touch Tam’s bottom line again.

As Tam had made it clear that he will handle it, this issue would be put on shelf that Carla could not discuss about it for a period of time.

Although Carla did not achieve her goal today, the family background of Nell Su had already ring the alarm of Tam. Nell is not a simple woman.

    “York.”

Next morning, York heard his mother’s calling downstairs when he got up. He opened the door and asked, “What is the matter, mom? I am going to go out for a run. Do you want to go with me?”

“How can an old lady run with you?” York’s mother said and gave a pleasant laughter. She climbed the stairs and said happily, “I come to tell you a piece of good news.”

“What? What kind of good news?”

York had been grounded at home for days. Though he could not go out, he still could do many things near his home. But it was boring to him.

York felt like he was back to the high school life again.

At that time, he woke up early to have a morning run, to train up his body. Then started his study after that.

Even though York did not have any work or business to deal with at the present time, he still wanted to be well prepared for the job and did his studies at home.

During his detention at home, York desperately needed a piece of good news to motivate him to keep working hard.

“I have convinced your father to let you go back to the company after some time.” York’s mother told him with a satisfying smile. And she looked at York’s face with sympathy and love, hoping her son could be happy when he heard the news too. It was heart breaking to see her son under detention.

York was not good an active person, but after he had been grounded at home, he was even gloomier than before. He was like a robot that did the routine every single day. Not motivated to do anything else which made his mother worried.

So, she wanted to plead for him before his father.

    “Really?”

When York heard this, he could not believe it. He was overwhelmed. He held his mother’s hand and wanted to confirm it again, “Are you saying that I can go back to the company soon? I don’t have to be grounded at home anymore?”

    “Yes.”

A bigger smile was shown on York’s mother face. She had not seen this excited and energetic son for a long time.

Getting the confirmation, York gave a wide smile as his mother did.

“This piece of good news come in a sudden. I’m overwhelmed and I don’t know what to say!”

York looked out the window and stared at the sunlight. He firmly made a fist and said, “Mom, I won’t let you down this time. Thank you for your help these days. I will do better a much better job. I will also let father appreciate my talent.”

York knew it clear in his heart. Without his mother’s support, he would not get through this rough time.

York is a restless man who could not be unoccupied. When he was in the company, he always wanted to keep himself busy, or even overload himself. Because it was the only way to fill his emptiness in his heart.

This detention had disturbed utterly this normal pattern of him. He did not even know what he should do at home.

No idea what to do every day, and what purpose he was living for.

It might be normal to an ordinary person. But it was killing him.
