Sleep with him?!

That was just too shocking!

If Edward did not know that she was being sad because she missed her father, he would definitely misunderstand her when she said those words.

“Why?” he asked, expressionless.

“I feel unsafe,” she replied as she bit her lower lip. She was afraid that he would be gone when she closed her eyes.

Edward stared at her for a long time. Finally, he agreed. “You will sleep on the sofa.”

Hailey’s eyes lit up immediately when she got the answer she wanted. “Of course!” she said with joy.

“Now, finish the milk and go to sleep.” Edward knocked at the glass in her hand. Then he stood up and took a clean blanket from the wardrobe before he threw it on the sofa.

Hailey acted quickly. She immediately drained the milk and lay down on the sofa. She covered herself comfortably with the blanket the closed her eyes, ready to sleep.

Edward turned the light down before he went back to the bed and laid down.

There was all silence in the room and only the sound of breathing could be heard. Edward closed his eyes, but he did fall asleep. He was a light sleeper. What was more, there was another girl in his room, which made him more difficult to fall asleep. All of a sudden, he heard her whisper, “Edward? Are you still awake?”

He did not intend to reply to her. A few moments later, he heard the rustling sounds of the blanket, and then the light footsteps.

Edward decided not to open his eyes. He just laid there with his eyes closed as if he had already fallen asleep. What is she going to do? he wondered.

Hailey walked on the soft carpet with bare feet and approached the bed very carefully like a cat. Later, she kneeled beside the bed. She put her elbows on the bed slightly, her hands putting against her chin. Then, she just stared at the man who was sleeping heavily on the bed.

That’s a bit creepy, Edward thought as he felt her gaze.

She watched him for a long time. Finally, she stretched out her hand and put a finger under Edward’s nose to feel his breath. She did not sigh in relief until she felt the warm breath from him.

That was great! Edward did not die! He was still alive!

Hailey smiled happily. She then could not help touching his arm outside the quilt. She felt warmness from the arm.

That was real. Here he was, breathing healthily.

With every passing second, Hailey felt sleepy gradually. Finally, she could not resist the desire to close her eyes. She fell asleep before long with a smiling face.

After she fell asleep, Edward opened his eyes slowly. He turned to look at the girl who was sleeping by the bed. There were complex feelings surging in his heart.

He thought he’d better call Nate and ask him to check up her very carefully. She was behaving really weird.

In the morning the next day, there was still thin mist in the air. The sunshine sprayed into the living room, making the world bright.

Doris, a relatively old maid walked in, her hand holding a glass bottle with flowers in it. She said the maid who was cleaning the living room, “Be careful and act gently. Otherwise, you will be blamed if you wake Miss Hailey up.”

The maid had a complicated facial expression. She responded, “Doris, Miss Hailey has already gotten up.”

Doris was stunned. “Already gotten up?” she repeated as she looked around to check where Hailey might be in now. “Where is she? I did not see her.”

The maid pointed at the kitchen and said, “She has been busy preparing the breakfast ever since she got up.”

Doris was totally dumbfounded upon hearing that. She immediately passed the bottle to the maid and walked quickly to the kitchen.

Before she entered the kitchen, Doris heard Hailey hum a bright song. She walked in and saw Hailey was wearing an apron on which there was a cute bear picture. She was busy stirring the egg. On the big kitchen counter there were various kinds of breakfast. The Chinese style, the Western style and, the Japanese style… That was a sumptuous breakfast.

“Miss Hailey, what are you doing?” Doris asked in surprise as she stared at the breakfast. “Are we going to have any guests here? There are too many of them…”

“Uhhh… Too many?” Hailey turned around and looked at her, asking.

There was awkwardness on Doris’s face. “Well, I’m afraid yes. That’s enough for about ten persons.”

Hailey touched her nose out of guilt and smiled awkwardly too. “Ha ha. You are right. That’s too many of them…”

Doris saw the flour left on her nose and found her quite funny. She wanted to laugh. But still she held her laughter when she thought of Hailey’s terrible temper. So she simply pressed her lips tightly.

“Ah, Doris. Actually I am making breakfast for Edward. But I have no idea what kind of food he likes. That’s why I made so many so many of them,” Hailey then explained. Then she asked again, “So, do you think which of them would he like? Is there any?”

In her past life, she had practiced so hard on cooking for that bastard. But she never cared about what kind of food Edward might like. So, she would prepare breakfast for him every day in this new life!

Doris was surprised to hear her explanation. “Did you make all of them for Mr. Zhang?”

Hailey nodded her head.

Doris blinked her eyes as she thought. Then, she began to check those breakfasts on the kitchen counter one by one. “He prefers the Chinese style for breakfast. And occasionally, he would have the Western style,” Doris said. Then, she pointed at a bowl of vegetable porridge that looked quite delicious with beautiful color and said, “Maybe he will like this one.”

“Really? What else?” Hailey asked again.

The moment Edward went downstairs, he heard Hailey twitter from the kitchen. He turned his head sideways and asked Louis, “What is she doing? Is she making a fuss again?”

Louis put a glass of warm water in Edward’s hand and replied, “Miss Hailey got up very early today and made you the breakfast. They are sharing experience in this respect.”

Edward’s hand which was holding the glass paused for a second. Then he took a sip. “Are they? She can cook?”

Louis shook his head, indicating he had no idea to that question either. Hailey did not return to this house for a long time, after all. He was not quite sure about it.

At that point in time, Hailey walked out with a tray on her hand. She walked to Edward immediately with a smiling face the moment she saw him.

“Good morning, Edward! I made you breakfast. Come and have a try.”

Edward saw the flour on her delicate nose move as she spoke. She looked rather cute. Then he turned his eyes on the tray she was holding. There were quite a few types of breakfast on it. The color looked quite yummy and the food was giving out a delicious smell. He was surprised. “You made them all by yourself?”

“Haha. Yes! Surprise! I had no idea what you liked, so I prepared several types of them! Please, enjoy them!”

Hailey put the dishes on the desk in front of him in a complaisant manner. Lastly, she put the vegetable porridge that Doris thought he would like in the middle,

Edward raised his eyebrows and took the porridge. He had a taste. It was soft and goopy with a delicious smell. He nodded his head to show him satisfaction.

He had never known that she was an expert at cooking.

“How does it taste like? Not bad, right?” Hailey asked carefully as she stared at him with her big eyes. She was waiting for his comments.

Edward did not say anything, though. He then took a taste of other dishes before he wiped his mouth with a napkin.

“Not bad,” he simply commented.

The smile on Hailey’s face froze at once. “Not bad? That’s all? No more comments?” she asked.

“Good!” Edward added.

“Good? No more?” Hailey grumbled. She was very unsatisfied with his comment! “Niggard! You won’t be hurt if you make a more detailed comment!”

Edward put a deaf ear to her complaint and concentrate on his breakfast leisurely.

At that time, Louis came and reported, “Mr. Zhang, Lambert Cheng, the president of the Cheng Group said that he wanted to visit you and Miss Hailey here.”

Edward looked to Hailey and asked, “What’s your opinion? Probably they are here to apologize to you.”

“Nah, I don’t want to see them. I was not beaten, after all.” Hailey refused. In her past life, Edward had taken revenge for her. In this life, she also took revenge for herself by beating Maggie and the others heavily. If possible, she would prefer not to see them for the rest of her life.

Edward nodded his head and said to Louis, “Tell them what Miss Hailey said.”

“Yes,” Louis said before he made his exit.

“Hey, Edward, I want to go shopping later,” Hailey reported to him about her plan. That was quite unusual too! This was the first time she had taken the initiative to inform him of her plan.

Edward did not say anything. He took out a second card from his purse and passed it to her. “You can buy everything with this card. Jack will go with you.”

Hailey paused for a moment before she reached out and accepted the card. “I can go alone.” Edward had many enemies. Many people hated him and wanted to have him killed.

Three months ago, someone tried to kidnap him. That was the time when her father died in order to protect him.

Edward took a look at her and did not insist. “Take care,” he simply enjoined.

“Yes, sure!” Hailey smiled brightly at him again. “I’m going upstairs to change my clothes! Take your time and enjoy breakfast! I will see you later,” she said happily.

After she disappeared, Edward said to Louis, “Send some men to protect her.”

“Yes, sir,” Louis said.
