Veronica stayed calm and let out a chuckle. She adjusted herself on the seat and then leaned against her seat. Staring at the car roof, she found it extremely clean. There was a faint smell inside the car. It smelled like some kind of perfume, but sometimes it smelled like the sandalwood. Anyway, it was a relaxing smell. She felt like sleeping. Suddenly, she said, "This was what our family had done to us."
Harrison lifted the corners of his mouth upwards. A sneer rested on his face.
"Yes, our family."
He turned around to look at her. She had a beautiful side face without any freckling. Her hair was carefully treated. It was a mess yet it shone healthily.
My family wanted to kill me while a stranger saved me, Harrison thought. She was no more a stranger to him now.
He turned on the music. A clear female voice echoed in the car. It was a piece of beautiful music mixed with grievance and sadness.
"Don't unwrap the silk of the gift; the expectation at first would turn into disappointment.
Don't turn on the radio at midnight; the love song would fool you.
Love doesn't teach me how to survive, but only how to deal.
It turns us into strangers; none of us would have elegant souls…" The lyrics of this song saddened the atmosphere.
Listening to the music, Veronica closed her eyes, tears rolling down her cheeks again. Yes, she hated her parents with all her heart. However, she still couldn't help crying when she recalled how they treated her so gently and cared for her so softly. And Jasper. He loved her so much. Veronica was unable to get rid of all those happy memories. In her past life, she felt that she had everything she wanted and thought she was the happiest person alive before the accident.
It was such a sweet and happy life. But now when she remembered it, she felt sick and disgusting. How fake those people were! A bunch of hypocrites!
Harrison did not feel well either. He clenched his hands which were holding the wheel, the veins at the back of his hands standing out. He was suppressing his anger hard. The wheel seemed to be unable to stand it when he pressed it so hard.
Veronica and Harrison had similar fates, but not exactly the same.
Veronica had been trapped with love. Her parents built up a castle made from love. In that castle, they were the king and the queen. They found her a prince who loved her so much. She was the beloved princess and had everything she wanted, beautiful clothes, diamonds, and so on.
Harrison was different. He had been struggling in the business world and surrounded by various enemies. He lost everything when he was careless for one second. Later, his family blamed him for everything. Still, he continued to struggle and went through the hardest time. However, his family was too greedy. At first they only wished that Harrison could keep what he had. He did it. Gradually, they wished his company would prosper. He did it. Finally, they killed him in order to take his company from him.
But at last, Harrison and Veronica ended up the same tragedy.
They both felt all of this ironic. But still their hearts hurt so much. They cramped badly as if the cancer haunted them and there was no cure.
The song continued for about four minutes before it faded. Veronica wiped her tears and smiled at Harrison. "It's such a beautiful song. Could you loop it?"
"Yes, sure." Harrison did as she asked. When he was done switching the playing mode, a smile crept on his face. It was a sincerely happy smile. His pale-blue eyes were shining with bright light.
Their heart hurt a lot. But as time went by, they did not feel them heart so badly. No matter how the song listened sad and touching, they would get used to it and wouldn't feel sad upon hearing it when it was looped several times.
They firmly believed that they would eventually get it through as long as they were tough enough.
They had been stuck in the traffic for about one hour. They listened to this song over and over again. None of them asked to stop it. They would feel the song with their heart each time it was played. Their hearts ached when they recalled the sadness and happiness. But they would feel less heartbroken than the previous round. Gradually, their pain faded with every passing second. When they realized it, they had already healed themselves.
They recalled the happy times when there were happy lyrics, and the sad times sad lyrics. Veronica totally agreed that they were abusing themselves by drowning in the old memories. But it was those terrible memories that were reminding them to prepare to take revenge.
Despite the fact that all those terrible things had happened in their past life and that their past life had gone, they still carried those memories. Their families were nothing but hypocrites. They bore dark thoughts and they betrayed them. There was no way Veronica and Harrison would find a way to forgive them. None of them were a sage. They were human beings who would love and hate. They had loved their family with all their hearts. And the love turned into pure hatred when their family betrayed them without any hesitation. Yes, that was true. They were now hating their family with all their hearts.
Only revenge could bring them peace.
