Burying her face into his arms, Veronica got a lump in her throat. She felt like crying and so did she. Tears welled up in her eyes and finally rolled down her cheeks and wetted his clothes.

Harrison felt her tears. He sped up, wanting to take her to his car as fast as he could.

His car was black, reflecting silver light. It was a luxurious yet low-key car, dull coloring and serious. It matched him well.

He unlocked the car and pulled the door open. Gently, he put Veronica on the seat before he closed the door.

He did it quickly and elegantly. Now he was sitting next to her, his eyes fixed on her. Though being a gentleman, he had no idea how to comfort a crying girl.

Veronica cried quietly. She did not sob. Tears kept running out of her eyes as if she was trying to get rid of all the grievance she suffered in her past life.

Yes, the grievance. Harrison knew all her grievance. He shared her sadness. She was the beloved princess, the apple of her parents' eye. She had a handsome boyfriend who loved her so much. But unexpectedly, she was caught in the fire in the haunted house because of him. Her face was destroyed and her legs were broken. She lost the proudest thing she once owned. Her dearest parents abandoned her by faking the news that she was not their biological daughter and her boyfriend dumped her too. Ever since then, she had been living at the bottom of society with no dignity. Harrison knew everything. He shared this hard time with her.

He stretched his hand out and stroked her face gently. He had slender fingers. Veronica could feel the calluses on his hand. He wiped off her tears and said in a heartbroken tone, "You never cry like this, even when we were having such a hard time in our past life."

Upon hearing his unskilled comfort, Veronica smiled through tears.

He was right. She rarely cried so heartbrokenly though she lived such a terrible life, with no parents, no love, no beautiful dresses, and no glass slippers. Yet she went through it. Could this life be worse than her past life?

Harrison usually carried a handkerchief with him. Now he took it out, white, silky with a square shape, and used it to wipe her tears off.

Her nose and the corners of her eyes were still a little bit red because of crying. Her cheeks were also slightly red since she had her make-up today. She decided not to cry anymore. Otherwise, her eyes would turn swollen with tears. That was not good.

With a smile on his face, Harrison reached out and touched her delicate nose lovingly. "Keep crying and you will become an ugly duckling from the beautiful princess."

An ugly duckling? So what? At least the ugly duckling became a beautiful swan at last despite its miserable childhood, unlike her in the past life who fell from heaven into hell. Thinking about this, Veronica smiled. "I'd rather be an ugly duckling."

At least, there will not be any cheats in her life if she were the ugly duckling, she thought.

Harrison stared at her, his pale-blue eyes filled with love and tolerance, just like what he had done in their past time when she learned about the truth and went mad, screaming like crazy and unwilling to accept the cruel reality.

Veronica was very happy. Delight and joy filled her heart up. She couldn't suppress her happened and she did not want. She stretched her hand and grasped the corner of Harrison's clothes as if only through this could she feel secure. There was satisfaction in her heart.

It feels so good to have someone with me, she thought.

Harrison started the engine. The lane was still crowded. Countless vehicles were stuck here. They hooted one after another and let out sharp noises.

Veronica was not affected by the annoying noise at all. She was not anxious and leaned against her seat cozily. With her head tilted, she looked at Harrison and asked, "How did you get here? What happened after I died?"

Gradually, the smile on Harrison's face disappeared, his eyebrows furrowed. Apparently, he did not want to mention anything. But when he noticed Veronica's expectant eyes, he decided to tell everything. She had the right to know it. "It was heavy snow and it came quickly before we could prepare for it. You know, we didn't have many warm clothes or quilt. When I woke up the next morning, I found that you already died of frost. I held you in my arms, but you were as cold as ice."

Veronica liked to laugh. She still remembered what her mother had told her once that God would bless those who liked to laugh. She smiled too upon hearing Harrison's words. But it was a sad smile, her eyes still swollen. She then asked, "What about you?"

The car in the front moved forward a bit. Harrison started the engine and moved forwards a little too and then stopped. The corners of his mouth curled upwards a bit. He stated in a cold tone, "I had stayed alive for quite a long time and they knew it. They were surely afraid of my being alive. After I cremate your body, they played the same trick. They had someone set a fire in our home. It was much fiercer than that in the haunted house. We were engulfed by the fire. We were burned into ashes, you and me."
