Blake walked out of the store onto the sidewalk with groceries in hand. -Finally got my own house, this should do for the next day or so till I get paid.- He thought.
He felt the buzz of his phone in the front pocket of his pants. He grabbed it and looked down to read the text from his mother.
*I'll come by this afternoon to drop off the rest of your underwear.* He texted back quickly. *MOM*
Before he could type anything else he bumped into someone. "Im so sorry." She said quite panicky. "No problem." He tried saying as nice as possible knowing that it was mostly his fault.
They had both bent down to pick up their stuff when he looked up at her and their eyes met. He was stuffing things in his bag without looking. He studied every feature of the girls face so quickly he could've been done with just a glance.
He recognized that face from every freckle to her bright green eyes. He panicked thinking she recognized him but knew she didn't when her face didn't change.
Blake had a quick flashback and remembered that he needed to keep her away from him. He painfully made an angry expression as he picked up the rest of his stuff and left her standing there confused.
He got back home in a hurry and started unloading his bag. That's when he noticed the shiny red wallet in the bag. He slowly picked it up and held it in the light.
He heard some commotion outside his door and put the wallet in the counter. The front door swung open and his mother burst in with a suitcase and a large coat draped over her arm. "You're so forgetful!" She teased when she saw Blake standing in the kitchen. He chuckled.
She left the bag beside the couch, threw the coat on top of and headed toward her son with arms outstretched. "My little boy is all grown up." She smiled. "Why did you insist on moving back here though, you should've stayed in our town in case something happens to your father or I."
"Ma, your house is in the next town. The one RIGHT beside this one. Besides, I have memories here."
Blake's mom looked up at him and smiled a sad loving smile. "You want to see her again don't you?" She asked. He turned and picked up the wallet. "I already have." He said while holding it up.
"MY GOD, SO YOU STOLE HER WALLET?!"
"No ma jeez!" We bumped into each other and I accidentally grabbed it."
"Oh yeah 'accidentally.'" She said making quotation marks with her hands. Her smile slowly faded when she looked at the wallet again. "Isn't that the one that you...."
"Yeah."
"So, she remembers?"
Blake looked at the floor and a few seconds passed before he answered "no." His mom gave him another hug and they talked a bit more before she left.
He made dinner and ate then headed to his bedroom where he laid down on his bed. He pulled out the wallet from where he'd been keeping in his back pocket. -At least I know she really did like it, if she's kept it this long.-
He opened it for the first time since he's had it in his possession. "I'll give it to her tomorrow, its not like I can just keep it." He made a small smile and took a picture of her ID, not of her information just of her.
-Im not a stalker I'm an old friend.- He told himself realizing what he did might seem a little bit creepy.
"A couple more weeks. It'll have happened two years ago." He sighed and put the wallet on the nightstand beside him in front of a red picture frame with glittery designs lining the edges. "Yeah you always loved the color red." He said staring at the picture.
In it was the eighteen-year-old girl from Dalia's dream stuck in a kids slide. Blake was laughing behind her trying to push her down. In the corner was a skin colored blur. "Ma, you got your hand in the picture." He laughed and turned around facing the wall and drifted off to sleep.
He woke up the next morning and ate breakfast before leaving with Dalia's wallet. He pulled up to the address that was on her ID but no one answered the door when he knocked. -Maybe I should come back another time.-
He opened the wallet again to double check the address. That's when he noticed a business card in the pocket. Blake figured that he had nothing to lose so he got in his blue pickup truck and headed to the address written on the back.
He walked into the building figuring out that it was a movie studio. His gaze scanned the room finding Dalia in the corner with a man hovering over her. Blake knew she was scared because it was written all over her face. He went up to the man and eventually got him to go away.
-Isn't that her ex.- He thought as he watched the man walk away defeated. He'd seen old photos of them together, ones that Dalia eventually burned.
"Dalia?" He asked so he didn't scare her by already knowing her name. She nodded and he proceeded to tell her about the lost wallet. After stating that she didn't realize it was even gone he remembered just how clumsy she really was.
When she asked to treat him to some coffee he panicked. "I thought......I mean you don't look like the coffee drinking type." He corrected himself.
From what he remembered, she despised the taste of coffee no matter how much milk or sugar or whipped cream was put in it. One time he was drinking coffee and she had mistaken it for chocolate milk since she had a bad nose and he let her have some. She would never let him forget it.
She replied that she still didn't like it she was just being nice. While she was rambling thought about why they had ever been apart but memories washed up on him as harsh as the sea on a stormy day. He had to stay away for both of their sake.
He thought of an excuse to leave and walked out of their as fast as he could but he never left the parking lot. He got in his truck to think. Not long after he watched as Dalia walked over to her car. she paused before opening the door like she was thinking about something.
When she finally did open the door one hand gripped the top corner and the other on her head. Seconds later she fell to the ground hard. Blake hopped out faster than the blink of an eye and ran to her without bothering to even shut his door.
After a few failed attempts at waking her up he shut her car door and grabbed her things. Fast but gentle, he put her in the passenger seat of his truck and zoomed to the hospital.
