“Do you think I can’t see you hiding behind a big guy?” David gazed at Shirley contemptuously. This lady didn’t realized she had made big mistake hurting the boy’s mother, and now she came here pretending this was a pure goodwill visit.
“Oh, No. This boy is so fierce and ill- mannered. No one taught him proper demeanor!” Shirley tried not to look at little David; this boy was quite unreasonable; how could he say such things about a lady in front of so many people.
Shirley gave Paxon Chewy a quick glance. Would he believe in any of this boy’s nonsense? No, no. Paxon was the kind of person who didn’t trust easily.
“Who said David is ill-mannered?” Gazing at Shirley angrily, Icy Wilkinson ignored her injury, flipped her legs off the bed, and tried to sit up. “Yea. Mama always taught me to become a good boy. Usually only the bad people will describe other people as bad people. You can’t even understand this. You are no better than kindergarten kids.” Knowing that his mother was on his side, David became more courageous and continued to gaze at Shirley angrily.
“Pax. See it yourself. These are very embarrassing and insulting. What have I done to be inflicted this indignity? Shirley face was red as she said to Paxon. “What do you really want?” Icy wanted no more bullshit; her injury had given her enough headache and it wasn't a good time for more quarrel.
“No. It is not Ms. Lindley. It was me who brought them here. I know I was a bad person. I cannot go to jail; I have a daughter and old parents to feed. Could you forgive me and stop the legal action against me?” Samyan, who had been kneeling on the floor quietly, began to cry again.
“Jail? Legal action?” Icy was bewildered and frowned. In fact, she had absolutely no idea what’s going on. “Icy, It seems you really fainted and didn't know happened. After the “accident”, my brother called the police who came in and arrested Samyan.” Shirley continued her story and gave a quick glance to Paxon, who was expressionless or poker face; and it seemed he was scrutinizing Icy’s wound on her head through the bandages. Observing Paxon’s eyesight on Icy, Shirley gnawed her own lips and thought to herself, Ice was really a menace between her and Pax.
“I know I was wrong. I am begging you; Please forgive me. I can’t go to jail.” Holding Icy’s hand, Samyan sobbed as she bowed her head in shame. Within a minute, Icy waved her hand. “I forgive you.” She was already exhausted and didn’t want to waste more time on this matter; the most important was that it’s always a bad idea to push someone into a dead end.
“Mr. Lindley has fired you. You have received your punishment already. I am not going to sue you. Please go home.” Legal actions against her would cost a lot of time, energy and money, which Icy had none. “Are you sure?” Not only Samyan was surprised by Icy’s decision; Shirley couldn’t believe what she had heard too, because she thought Icy wouldn’t allow her to go easily this time, after what she had pulled to her. Now Shirley had wasted her time bringing Samyan here; her originally plan was to pretend to be a peacemaker between Icy and Samyan, in order to show her kindness and benevolence to Paxon.
“Please go home now.” Icy repeated and nodded. All she wanted now was to rest. “Thanks. Thank you very much. Samyan wiped her red sobbing eyes and stood up; she looked at Icy sincerely, bowed and then turned around. When she passed by Shirley Lindley, they exchanged a quick glance, that no one could notice.
“Mom, she hit you badly. Why did you forgive her easily?” Little David couldn’t understand why her mother let that bad lady go away; His mother’s injury was severe and she had lost so much blood,
“David is a good boy. You must learn to forgive and forget the people who do wrong to us. It doesn’t worth to waste your time and energy on them.” Looking at her beloved son lovingly, Icy gave him a kiss on his face. “Mom. I understand. we should forgive,” David closed his eyes, thought for a moment and then nodded earnestly.
“Icy, I thought you would quarrel with Samyan; She already had a difficult time; you shouldn't worry too much about her.” “This auntie is very bad,” Little David frowned and eyed Shirley unfriendly. “Don’t you understand me about forgiving people? Why do you keep complaining?” “This auntie is really troublesome. It is not her problem here. Why is she here making so much noise? My mother needs to rest.” David mumbled to himself.
Shirley clenched her teeth but couldn’t speak a word, “This boy is indeed a menace. One day I will make him regret. He has embarrassed and made me look like a fool in front of Paxon Chevy.”
“Icy. You will have a one week sick leave. Make sure you are fully recovered before you go back to work. The company has responsibility for what had happened to you; we will compensate your losses.” Hosea Lindley furrowed his brows; he seemed to agreed with David Wilkinson that Shirley was too noisy; she was like an indulged child who thought she could do anything she wanted; and as her big brother, he couldn’t let her continue to do things the ways she had been doing.
“Mr. Lindley. Thank you very much for your kindness.” Icy politely smiled and nodded. She was wearing a hospital gown which was quite slacken and loosen. When she moved her body, her apparel slopped and revealed her butterfly birthmark which was above her chest, near her neckline.
Paxon Chevy’s both eyes blinked as he observed Icy’s birthmark, which reminded him of his crazy sex experience with a mysterious lady five years ago. Somehow, he still believed Icy Wilkinson was that woman whose aroma and aura were so familiar.
Suddenly, Shirley noticed Paxon’s attention on Icy; she bursted out before anyone could say a word. “Oh, You still have not washed your tattoo?” Icy felt nervous when she heard Shirley’s remark about her birthmark, and then she turned to look at Paxon who was obviously staring at her plunging neckline. Instinctively, Icy immediately straightened her slacken gown, but remained silent.
“What tattoo? Are you talking about my mother’s birthmark?” Little David replied to Shirley and then turned to look at his mother, who looked very awkward. “David, Enough, Please don’t say more.” Icy tried to stop David from saying more. She knew that even if Shirley Lindley didn’t appear, Paxon Chevy and her were not possible.
“Yes, Mother, whatever you say.” David bulged his cheeks roundly, but in his heart, he was full of questions. What was going on here? Was everyone blind? The butterfly on my mother’s chest was obviously a birthmark. Why did people say it’s a tattoo?
“Yes, brother, Pax and I should go now.” Shirley worried that if she stayed longer, that little menace would say more to demean, degrade and cheapen her. She immediately grabbed Paxon’s arm and heaved him out of the room.
When they reached the basement parking lot, Paxon stood in front of his car, but was motionless. “What is going on? Dear. Why don’t you get in the car?” Shirley was confused and questioned her boyfriend. “Why don’t you call your butler or a taxi? I still have some business to look after. Can’t drive you home now.” Before Shirley could respond, he opened the car door, closed it, fasten seat belt and drove away.
“I can’t understand, Pax, how could you leave me here in a parking lot like that?” Standing alone in the basement parking lot, Shirley was trying to analyse what exactly had happened here. It must have been Icy who divulged something about the birthmark near her neckline. It must be it. Shirley was so provoked, but suddenly a white sedan stopped in front of her and the driver opened the window and said, “Ms Lindley.”
