Everything in the garden of the house was still keeping the same scenery like the old days.

As she entered the dining room, Jane’s mom was sitting on the chair her dad used to use and chatting with Henry and Susan.

However, the woman shifted a completely different expression as she saw Jane and scolded, “How dare you come back again!”

Jane had never expected her mom would be so cruel to her.

“Auntie, she was away for work.” Henry made a gesture for Jane to sit down.

“Yeah, that’s right. Jane has to work.”Susan agreed.

But Jane’s mom was even more pissed off.

“The family has gone broke but she can’t work for that man to survive.”

The woman had never worked ever since she married to Jane’s dad. The society nowadays was a completely unknown world to her.

Besides, she still bore the old concept that women didn’t have to work--they just should be good housewives and take a good care of children.

While as for men, on the other hand, were ought to earn money and support the family. She just didn’t approve this daughter that she let Henry McQueen go and stayed around Wayne--son of her previous houseboy.

“Mrs Lim, it’s all my fault. I failed to always keep her by my side. Believe me, I’ll never let her go again.” Henry promised and looked to Jane lovingly.

“Auntie, let’s have the meal. I’m starving.” Susan Lee said like a spoiled child. As a matter of fact, she was the regular guest of their family. Jane’s mother had always regarded Susan as her own daughter.

“Okay, okay, let’s have the lunch.”

After all dishes were served, Jane’s mom put some sliced beef on Henry’s plate. The woman really liked this young man and hoped that he could marry Jane from the bottom of her heart.

“Thank you, auntie.” Henry looked to Jane’s mom and then took a glance at the girl he’d engaged to. But the latter one was busy having her dishes and didn’t notice him.

“Is she still mad at me?” Henry thought and grabbed some broccoli into Jane’s bowl.

Susan saw the scene and suddenly laughed, “You guys are so funny. Here you go.” Then she picked some fish for Cindy.

“Give me your roasted duck.” Susan said to the little sister.

“You have your own dish.” Cindy declined.

“I’m just kidding. Don’t be this serious, okay?”

Actually, Cindy didn’t like this friend of her sister’s. She’s like a lunatic and didn’t behave reasonably.

What’s more, she seemed to be not so friendly to her sister.

For example, although she explained that she was just kidding, she was provoking the conflict between Jane and her mom just now.

“Jane, my dad said that your business trip with Wayne this time was for the land at Hammerfest. How’s it going?”

“It has nothing to do with you.” Jane rolled her eyes and refused to discuss more.

While Susan still gazed at her and waited for the answer.

“Everything was fine. We had the land as planned and those villagers agreed to move out.” Jane gave a brief demonstration as she didn’t feel like talking more about her work around her mom.

    “That’s it. All-star’s never gonna win P&F.”

“You always talk too much. Cuisine can’t shut your mouth.” Henry chipped in.

    Susan’s face turned green.

“Henry, stop being this mean. Did I have any cuisine from you?”

“I can’t afford your snacks fees.”

Jane burst out into laughter. Susan could never win the debate with Henry.

“Come on, you little ones. Stop being naughty.” Jane’s mother smiled and had maids to serve more dishes.

The atmosphere in the house hadn’t been this harmonious for a long time. No matter what they held in mind, the peace at the surface was precious as well.
