The night fell and they gathered around at the mayor’s house.
The old man puffed his tobacco beside Wayne, who was dealing with different issues promoted by villagers.
“How much are you gonna compensate my dozens of acres of fruit forest?”
“I have a big family and I need more condos.”
“My family has been making a living by this field.”
Each and every of them was arguing for more interests over the contract.
While Jane, being his secretary, was demonstrating P&F’s offers for different conditions with a smiling face to these villagers over and over again.
The settlement was nailed by the midnight.
And Jane then had to write a draft and hand it to the mayor tomorrow morning.
After the mayor brought the contract to each family and have them sign on it, the company’s first period of the construction would be achieved.
It was a good start after all.
Jane finally could be alone after the work was done.
She sat on the swing at the back yard and stared at the milky way above.
She wanted to make a phone call back home but the signal here was not stable.
At the moment, Wayne got close from behind and gently pushed her to swing.
“Push me harder.”
“Harder.”
The young Jane’s giggling echoed in her mind.
The guy behind her used to push her the same way a dozen years ago.
“Wayne, do you believe in fate?”
“No, I only believe in myself.”
“Well, me neither. But I feel I’m now being fooled around by fate.”
Then both young souls kept silent and didn’t utter a word under the stars.
As early as the guy could remember, he had been loving this princess and always wanting to get closer to her.
He tried so hard to get into her heart. At this moment, they were together at this yard but their souls were millions of miles away.
Maybe this was his fate--Jane couldn’t see how much he loved her from the bottom of his heart.
The next day, three of them went all the way back with a pile of contracts.
The rest of the land construction work would be left to professional team at P&F to finish.
As they drove to the downtown area of Hammerfest, Jane’s phone sang.
There were Wechat messages and calls from Cindy, Henry and several friends.
Jane dialed her sister’s number first. Cindy was the one she cared about most after all.
“How’s it going? And what about mom?” Jane was desperate to hear their present condition. She’s absent from her teenager sister and sick mom for about a week.
“Don’t worry, sis. Mom and I are fine. Brother Henry has been with us over these days. And good news--we moved back into our old house! Brother Henry bought it for us.”
“Okay, I got it. I’ll be home this noon. Wait me.”
“I see, sis. Is brother Frank coming home with you?”
“Frank?” Jane didn’t realize that her little sister had a feeling for him. Maybe it started from the kidnapping incident.
Frank was a reliable friend as well as a good employee.
But he might not be a good husband. Jane didn’t accept the guy to date her little sister. Besides, Cindy was only 16.
“Well, pay more attention to your school work, okay?”
“Mom said that I had way better grades than you.”
That’s true, Jane never truly read a book.
Now Cindy was a straight-A student and she was really proud of this little sister.
“You’ve got to be stronger than me. Otherwise, how could the Lim family thrive?”
“Tell her to get back home as soon as possible! How could she go on a trip alone with other men?” Jane’s mom yelled from the other side of the line.
She just hated this daughter. She couldn’t believe that Jane gave this opportunity of marring Henry McQueen away and work for P&F. It was a shame for her to admit Jane as her daughter.
She really lost her face and dignity.
“Okay, okay, I have to hang up the phone. Mom’s complaining.” Cindy hurried to cut off the line.
The plane landed safely in F city. While Jane was hesitant in going straight back home. She did miss her mom and little sister but she always got into fight or argument with her mom each time they spoke face to face.
“Frank, drive her home.” Wayne didn’t have her go back to the company with him as usual.
For he knew Jane missed her family--her mom and sister--even Henry.
He could make money or keep the girl by his side. But he was never able to force her to love him.
He didn’t believe in fate but he was never able to resist it.
Jane looked up surprisingly at the man.
“You wanna stay with me?” The guy moved his lips but he was stilling wearing the same old poker face.
Jane was then assured that the guy was now being himself. A few seconds ago, she thought she felt for the guy.
She popped into the car and watched the lonely figure disappeared in his own vehicle.
She was curious about what this man had gone through and conquered to establish his own business empire.
From this business trip, she had learned that there were numerous obstacles to solve even to confirm the construction of a uptown land. She indeed had a long way to go to relaunch the Lim Group.
The car pulled over in front of her house, in which stored all her best memories.
Jane got off, stood there for a few minutes, wiped off her tears and then pushed the door bell button.
“Sis——” Cindy run to her joyfully.
“Do you miss me?” Jane hugged the little girl who was now glancing over the car.
“Brother Frank, you’re here!” Cindy left her Jane and walked to the vehicle.
Frank Su rolled down the window and nodded as a greeting.
“Brother Frank, come on in, have lunch with us.”
“Thank you, Miss Lim. But I have my work to do back P&F, maybe next time.” The guy waved to them and drove away.
“Wow, now I see. I thought he treated you differently from others. But now it seems to be that he’s just being responsible at work.”
“Go, go inside.”
“Well, you’re not being a good hostess. He drove you home and you should have invited him to come in and have a cup of tea.” Cindy was not pleased and pouted.
“Now you start to choose a man over your sister, right?” Jane joked. Actually, she understood Cindy’s feelings.
The little girl’s love was like a crystal--it was pure and true, in which there was not a little bit worldly purpose.
