“Why does she need to show up?”

Believing Carol Li must have taken part in this specific arrangement, York was unhappy about this. Usually it took merely ten minutes to get the supply contract signed. It would not be necessary for Nell Su to attend.

The secretary standing beside him was concerned about it too. He said in a low voice, “Sir, should I negotiate with them, or I tell them Nell is ill that she is going to take a leave?”

“No, you don’t have to do that.”

York waved his hand. He didn’t want his secretary to do such meaningless things. “Family Li shares the same temper. Like Carol Li, she comes here to look for troubles all the time. You can tell that they won’t leave us alone if they can’t get what they want. And now, we need their help. So, we can’t provoke them. Just do what they request.”

“Alright…”

Though the secretary agreed with it, he was still worried about the meeting.

He believed that it was not as simple as York thought and something unexpected was going to happen.

York looked at his secretary who was frowning. He knew that his staff was worried, so he comforted him and said, “Alright, don’t overthink. You should go to meeting with Nell and inform me at once if anything happens.”

“Yes, sir.”

The secretary nodded, left and looked for Nell.

It was almost lunch time. Nell was buried by piles of files in the Personnel Department.

York’s secretary easily found Nell behind the shelf who was reading the data of newcomers of the company and taking notes.

York asked her to choose two newcomers and promote them to be his secretaries. She did not know the reason that York gave her this task because she was unfamiliar with managing human resources. In order to complete this strange and sudden task, Nell had lock herself in the portfolio storeroom and buried herself in staff portfolios for two whole days.

The secretary knocked the door lightly with a polite smile.

When Nell saw York’s secretary, she gave him a polite smile in return. “Can I help you? What make you come here to look for me? You can simply give me a call.”

Nell was smart enough to know that it must be something important for his coming.

The secretary took a chair and sat down. He causally said, “What are you doing here? Here is so dusty. Don’t you feel sick to stay here every day?”

“Maybe, but I have to do my job and finish my task.”

Nell smirked and continued to read the portfolio on her hands. Suddenly she stopped and looked at the secretary. “You haven’t told me why you come here yet. I bet you come all the way here just to have a casual chat with me.”

“Why can’t I?”

The secretary smirked, trying to tease her.

Nell rolled her eyes and said, “C’mon, just tell me, alright?”

“No problem.” Knowing Nell’s workload, he did not intend to waste Nell’s time anymore. “Our company signs a supply contract with Family Li every quarter. This time, not knowing their intention, they require you to attend the meeting. I have already reported the issue to Mr Gu. And he agreed to let you join the meeting. I come here to inform you.”

“Family Li…” Nell murmured, “That is the family of Mr Gu’s fiancée?”

“Right.”

The secretary did not want to hide anything. He said directly, “This thing is weird. So, both Mr Gu and I think that I will join the meeting with you that I can report to Mr Gu right away if anything happens. I won’t let you get into trouble.”

“Alright.” Nell nodded. “Don’t be too worried. I can handle it.”

“Yes.” The secretary answered and left the storeroom. Nell continued to read her files there.

Two days later, Nell could finally leave office on time at half past five.

She had never got off work on time. She usually worked or tided some loose ends at office after five-thirty. However, It was York who asked her to leave office on time today.

“Nell.” York lowered his head. After signing the last file with his name, he looked up at Nell and said, “Today you don’t have to work overtime or stay in the company. Just go home earlier and take a good rest. Put on some make up and change your outfit. I will send someone to pick you up at half past six.

“What?”

Nell didn’t know what York meant.

York found it amused when he saw Nell’s confused face. He explained patiently to Nell. “They are going to have a banquet in hotel tonight. Naming it a banquet, but don’t worry about it, they would only have some drinks and chats. Then sign the contract. So, you should dress up.”

“Alright.”

Although Nell was poor, she had some basic cosmetics. When she accepted the job offer, she bought some makeup for work, as she knew there would be some formal occasions.

“OK.”

After Nell left his office, York started to pack up and prepared to leave.

He planned to go to the banquet with Nell tonight, but he was afraid of arousing more rumors about them which would bring troubles to him within his own family.

Though he did not hate Nell, considering about his family, at this moment, he considered to control his feelings about Nell.
