Thinking that Nigel was good only to her, Elvira lowered her head shyly. Deep down, she felt happy.

Every girl liked being treasured by someone. Elvira didn’t like those men who were warm to all women.

To her, a reliable man should be like Nigel, who was cold to the others but was always patient and thoughtful to his woman.

Suddenly, she realized that Nigel was her type.

At this point, his arms moved and Elvira closed her eyes quickly in a fluster.

However, he saw what she did. She sucks at pretending. Her eyelashes are fluttering nervously, he thought with a knowing smile.

Pretending to be ignorant, Nigel lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.

No sooner had he pressed his lips against hers than her eyes snapped open in surprise. "What are you doing?" she asked.

She pushed him away, blushing, her eyes wide open.

"Stealing a kiss," he replied with a wicked smile.

Like a startled rabbit, she wriggled out of his embrace and ran toward the bathroom.

Her face was on fire with embarrassment. Somehow, her red cheeks made her look even more adorable. If Nigel saw her like this, he would be unable to resist the temptation.

While she was dressing up in the bathroom, Nigel shouted in the bedroom, "Freshen up quickly. I’ll take you out for some clothes shopping later.

You agreed to meet my family today, remember?"

Then he thought of Preston and his mom Sienna. The smile on his face disappeared instantly.

Those two were both mean people. If Elvira hadn’t agreed, he wouldn’t go home. Even his grandfather wouldn’t have convinced him.

After Nigel had enlisted in the air force, he moved out of that home. He only went back on his grandfather's birthday.

In recent years, every time he went home, he gave his grandfather the gift and then left right away in order not to see the people he hated, especially Sienna and Preston.

Now that he had Elvira, he only wanted to stay with her, never apart from her.

After a while, she walked out of the bathroom, hands clutching her dress, sweaty. He knew that she was nervous about meeting his family.

Nigel got out of bed and threw his arm around her. Rubbing her arm with one hand, he reassured her, "Don’t worry. I’ll be with you."

His words were short and simple, but somehow they gave her courage. She wasn't that nervous anymore.

That evening, Nigel’s family gathered in the living room. As the head of the family, Randal sat in the chair in the middle. He had a commanding presence.

Sienna stood beside Felix like an obedient wife, but Preston wasn’t there with them.

"Where’s Preston? His brother is back home. Why hasn’t he come downstairs yet?"

Randal asked. There was anger in his voice.

    "He’ll be downstairs soon,"

Sienna replied with a fawning smile. "I’ll go rush him."

As soon as she turned around, the smile on her face was replaced by a resentful expression.

She was pretty, hot and slutty. She usually wore heavy makeup and gaudy clothes. Men were attracted by her easily.

And Felix was one of those men.

That year, Sienna was a newbie of Hewin Consortium. At the annual meeting of the company, she met Felix. Unwilling to be just a clerk, she decided to seduce this big shot.

Then one day, she waited for Felix to show up, and pretended to accidentally bump into him. Just like that, she successfully seduced him and made the man fall in love with her.

Then they got married. She went to great lengths to give birth to a son to consolidate her position in the family. Since Preston was her only biological son, she spoiled him.

Preston lived up to her mom’s expectations. He had been working in the company for years, and he had done a good job. Felix was pleased. But Randal’s opinion was ambiguous.

"Preston, Nigel is already downstairs. Hurry up."

She knew her son and Nigel didn’t see eye to eye. After all, they were competing against each other for the company.

And she and Nigel never liked each other either. But she always acted otherwise when Randal was around, giving nobody a handle against her and her son.

If Randal got mad at them, he might kick them out of the house, let alone the company.

    "Got it."

Preston looked at his mom and walked out of his room.

He had started working in the company before he graduated from college. In the past few years, he had learned how to run a company. Meanwhile, he had established his own connections. He was respected at work and well-known in the industry.

Nigel, on the other hand, had been contented with being an air force major general. It seemed that he wasn’t interested in taking over the company at all.

Randal was worried about it, yet Sienna felt ecstatic.

But Preston was smart. He knew that Nigel wouldn’t give up Hewin Consortium. Their grandfather had worked hard all his life for it.

Even though Preston figured out Nigel was just putting on a show, he said nothing about it and played the waiting game. He observed quietly to see what Nigel was up to.

Preston already had years of experience in business, but Nigel had never attended any of the company’s activities. Preston didn’t think his older brother was capable of taking the company away from him.

He smiled when he pondered over it. "Nigel," he called when he saw Nigel.

His dark brown eyes stared at him, as if he was waiting for a response.

However, Nigel looked him in the eye but didn’t reply.

Felix watched. The tension between his two sons made him worry.

As brothers, they should work together to contribute to the development of the company, but they concentrated on competing against each other.

Neither of the two young men spoke. The air seemed to have curdled.

Everyone felt uncomfortable in the awkward silence. Elvira looked at Nigel nervously. She didn’t know what had happened between Nigel and Preston. Since everybody remained silent, she didn’t speak either.

It was Felix who finally broke the silence. "Okay. Since everybody is here, let’s eat."

People started moving toward the dining table.

Few people knew about the feud between the two brothers.

Many people thought that the reason Nigel had chosen not to work in Hewin Consortium was that he didn’t want to compete against his brother. Brother was far more important than a company.

However, that was only people’s assumption.

It was far from the truth,

    which was dark and cruel.
