What should I do? Nigel screamed inwardly.

He had never been in a relationship before. Should he take her now?

Despite being an influential man in the air force, he was at a loss facing the woman he loved.

Maybe he should start reading books about relationships.

He looked at Elvira until his elbow went sore. Then he kissed her, got off her and lay down on his back.

We’re married. It's normal for us to sleep in the same bed. Sooner or later, we’ll have sex, he thought to himself.

He was a decent man. He wouldn’t force her.

Afraid to look at her, he lay with his back to her, wondering when she was going to accept him.

    Would she ever accept him?

Lying there, Elvira was still thinking about what had just happened. A moment ago, Nigel’s face had been so close to her. It kept coming back to her head.

His eyes, his brows, his lips, his stray hair on his forehead, his breathing...

    he was so hot.

For a moment, she was convinced that she had made the right decision to marry him.

The man didn’t seem to intend to leave the room. Elvira didn’t rush him. She had no idea how nervous he was at that moment. She fell asleep fast.

Nigel was still deep in his own thoughts.

The next morning, when Elvira got up, breakfast was already put on the table. Once more, there was a note—did you sleep well?

There was a sinister smile after that sentence. The signature was Husband followed by a heart shape.

Elvira smiled. Little did she know that Nigel was angry when he wrote that note.

The night before he had been struggling about what to do. Lying in bed, he hadn’t dared to move, worrying that it might disturb her.

After being conflicted for what was like an eternity, he had finally made up his mind. Oh, what the hell! he thought.

However, when he turned around to face her, Elvira was already sound asleep.

Unwilling to give up, he even called her, trying to wake her up. Nonetheless, she slept like a log.

He hadn’t expected her to have such a deep sleep with a man lying beside her.

Luckily, the man was him. If it were somebody else, she might have been raped.

He pushed himself up on one elbow and watched her sleep. She was quiet like a baby. Gradually, his anger vanished.

That evening, when Nigel came home from work, he was beat. Elvira was sitting on the couch, restless. Upon seeing him, she was obviously relieved as if he was her lifesaver.

Then Nigel noticed that there were two men sitting opposite her.

    "Dad?

    Grandpa? Why are you here?"

Nigel walked over and sat next to Elvira. She must have been frightened.

    "You ungrateful brat!

Marriage is a serious matter. How could you keep it from us?"

his grandpa Randal He complained, pounding his cane against the floor.

Elvira was scared. Nigel held her hand immediately to comfort her.

"Grandpa, I was going to tell you, but you came before I could,"

    Nigel explained.

Randal was angry, but he didn’t want to flare up in front of Nigel’s father Felix He.

Randal cared a lot about Nigel. After all, one day the Hewin Consortium would be Nigel's.

However, Felix loved his younger son Preston He more. Randal and Felix had argued frequently over this.

    "Forget it.

Now that you two are already married, hold a party and invite the relatives and friends of the two families,"

    Randal said. His tone softened.

    His remarks shocked Elvira. Relatives?

So, my father and stepmother will be invited too?

She didn't want her father and stepmother in her new life. This marriage was a new beginning for her. She didn’t want her past to disturb her new peaceful life.

Yet her father and stepmother coming to the party meant trouble. They would turn the party into a nightmare.

If Colette knew she had married the son of the CEO of Hewin Consortium, she would throw biting sarcasm at her.

The stepmother would make a fool of herself at the party. It was okay that she humiliated Elvira, but what about Nigel's pride?

The more Elvira thought about it, the more she got worried. She looked at Nigel anxiously.

Nigel looked nonchalant, though. "Grandpa, I don't think a party is necessary," he said to Randal calmly.

"I only want to live a peaceful life with Elvira. Besides, I don’t like parties."

"How could you make a decision just based on whether you like it or not? It’s not up to you!"

Felix, who had been silent, suddenly reprimanded.

He had been distant to Nigel, especially after Nigel’s mother died.

He thought his younger son was more like him.

However, Randal insisted that Nigel should take over the company, because he was the firstborn.

To their surprise, Nigel chose to be an air force Major General. He didn’t show much interest in taking over the company.

Randal had tried many time to persuade him to work and learn in the company, but Nigel had fudged the issue.

Felix's younger son, Preston, had been working in the company since a long time ago. Naturally, Felix favored the obedient younger son.

Moreover, Preston had proved himself to be competent. Even Randal couldn’t complain.

Randal was anxious. But on the surface, he pretended to be impartial between his two grandsons.

    "I really don’t think it’s necessary,"

Nigel retorted, looking at Felix firmly. "I hope you can understand. I’m a military officer. There are disciplines I have to follow. For starters, I can’t spend lavishly."

Listening to them talk, Elvira was so nervous she was sweating. Nigel held her hand tighter and nodded at her, as if he were saying, "Relax. I’m here."

Nigel was always defiant to Felix.

Felix had married Nigel’s stepmother, aka Preston's birthmother Sienna Liu, right after Nigel’s mother died.

Randal had objected to the marriage back then. He had approved of Nigel’s mother, but she had died too young.

Nigel’s disobedience and disrespect embarrassed Felix.

He was going to explode when Randal interrupted him, "Nigel, Hewin is one of the biggest consortiums in the city. And you are the heir to the Hewin Group. So the party is a necessity."
