Sean went into the bedroom and changed clothes to go out after he got over the anguish, holding that pot of orchids tightly into his arms.
The winter in the north was dry and chilly, with piercing wind. Sean wore his thickest down jacket, spending more than 80 yuanto take a taxi to the hospital.
Gene Ai just saw a round white ball knocking on the door of his office and then walking in. Before he felt funny, he saw the man pull down his scarf, revealing an angular and pale face.
"Doctor Ai." Sean said hello to him gently.
Gene poured a cup of hot water for him at once. He touched the cold finger tip of Sean when handing over the cup to him: "Why get medicine at such a cold day?"
"By the way," Sean smiled, letting Gene see the orchids: "I send back your house to you."
They had known each other for almost two months, so they were almost familiar. But it was the first time that Sean chatted with Gene in a playful tone.
Gene kept noncommittal. He rubbed the shriveled leaves of the orchids with his slender fingers and said: "Isn't is just a potted flower? But if you dion't like its delicacy, I might as well get you some adaptive ones from my dad some day."
Sean did not want to talk deeply because he had no strength to make friends. He just smiled and pulled the words back to the topic: "This morning I vomited again and vomited some blood. Unlike when I was younger when I had a stomach bleeding from drinking. This time I felt as if I was vomiting up the rest of my life."
"I've been urging you to get the chemotherapy immediately......" Gene frowned and spinned his pen behind his desk. People familiar with him all knew that this was his unconscious behavior when he felt upset. " Aren't you just 30? You don't seem to be short of money. Why you be so hard on yourself?"
"I'll think about it." Sean looked down weakly.
"Two months ago you said you would think about it. Do you still want to go through this year with medicine?"
Sean was not willing to talk more, drinking half a glass of water to thaw out: "Have the medicine arrived? I'm not feeling well."
"I'm not going to give you any medicine if you don't get chemotherapy." Gene went angry inexplicably: "I am looking for a bone marrow for you. Noone can help you then if you still treat your heath indifferently!"
Sean felt a little warm, smiling more sincerely: "There won't be any doctor-patient contradiction if all doctors are like you."
"Ok, stop flattering me." Gene stood up and took off his white coat. "I'm off duty this afternoon. Now I'll take the medicine with you It's time to change your medicine. I don't want to write the prescription."
"How wayward." Sean saw him put on a long windbreaker and then said: " It's cold outside."
Gene ignored it and took the medicine together with him, stopping him when Sean was going to leave after expressing his thanks: "I'll send you back. It's hard to hail a taxi at this cold day."
Sean failed to decline. Actually, he couldn't withstand the wind anymore.
Sean recognized that the doctor was not a simple figure when he saw his car. His Ferrari was really not low-key at all. He was even more willing to spend money than William.
"When I was young, the last thing I wanted to hear was' shiftless rich second generation '. My dad always praised me for my keeping up the appearance." Gene got voluble out of his working place. There was even some youthful vitality lingered on his eyes and brows.
Sean looked at the window. After a long time, he responded in an undertone: "I also wanted to be a doctor at the beginning. I applied to three medical universities......"
"Failed?"
"I didn't have a test." Sean's eyes went blank with poignant void: "I often woke up crying those days. I did not feel very sad or regretful, but it just happened all the time."
Sean was a suitable condidate to be a friend, as at this moment, he just kept silent. After the tough few minutes of tranquility, he spoke with deceptive ease: "Your house is in a good location, so it may be better for you to quit the schoolwork. If it were not for my father, I would spend a long hard time."
Sean just smiled and didn't speak, letting Gene stop the car at the gate of the community.
"Thank you, Dr. Ai. I'll treat you to dinner sometime."
"Well,it's better to let me treat you with chemotherapy sometime." His accent was pleasant to hear.
Sean bade him farewell and saw him drive away. He tidied up the scarf, walking into the community in the wind. Then he just saw William's car.
