I really don't want to curse, whether it's for the sake of the child in my belly or to uphold my image in front of Shen Jialin, but faced with Shen Jialin's increasingly keen insight, I have developed a deep sense of fear. I can only use this method to conceal my guilty conscience.
Shen Jialin, seeing that I was angry, tried to please me and said, "Alright, alright, I won't ask anymore. Don't be mad."
After speaking, he grabbed my hand with one hand and took out a band-aid from his pocket with the other. I looked at that band-aid, feeling momentarily lost in thought.
Shen Jialin used to always put a band-aid on himself every time he trained or went on a mission. I would always mock him, laugh at him for being a sissy, and laugh at him for being a special forces soldier who was afraid of getting hurt. But in the end, every band-aid ended up on my own body.
This adhesive bandage makes me feel like I'm back in the days of the Snow Wolf Squadron.
I came to my senses and tried to pull my hand back, but it was tightly held by Shen Jialin. He used his teeth to tear open the outer packaging of the adhesive bandage and carefully applied it to the bruised area on the back of my hand.
I chuckled softly, thinking how ridiculous it was to use a band-aid on an unbroken skin. But when I saw his expression, the words I was about to say were swallowed back.
Shen Jialin lowered his head, his sword-like eyebrows slightly furrowed, his jaw tense, and the seriousness in his eyes was both familiar and unfamiliar to me. His hands were warm and dry, and the skin that he held onto felt like it was on fire. That flame burned from my hand all the way to my heart, giving me a start.
What is wrong with me?
I felt a sense of unease. After being a special forces soldier for five years, I have experienced countless life and death situations with Shen Jialin. I thought I knew him well, but now, the current Shen Jialin feels unfamiliar to me. I can no longer decipher many of his actions, expressions, and words. What went wrong? Why does the person in front of me seem like a stranger?
After sticking it on, Shen Jialin held my hand and squeezed it, "You're doing well these days, your hands have become quite smooth."
My heart suddenly skipped a beat. I forcefully pulled back my hand and tugged at the corner of my mouth, saying, "Thanks, can I go now?"
Shen Jialin remained silent. After a moment's pause, I looked up at him, nodded, and turned around to leave.
Shen Jialin didn't chase after me anymore. I breathed a sigh of relief and walked quickly towards the men's department.
After changing into a fresh pair of pants, I discarded the old ones stained with red wine and hailed a taxi to Sun Doctor's house.
Dr. Sun's daughter is very cute. When she saw me, she called me "Uncle Xiaoqiao." When I handed her the Barbie suit, she waved at me and motioned for me to bend down. I supported my stomach and half squatted down, and she kissed me on the cheek.
I paused for a moment, an indescribable feeling welling up from deep within my heart. I smiled and ruffled her hair.
During the meal, Dr. Sun informed me that Professor Messi from overseas had already replied to him, expressing great interest in my case. He mentioned that Professor Messi would take some time within the next month to visit China and personally examine me. I was delighted and thanked Dr. Sun for his assistance.
After dinner, Dr. Sun's wife specially prepared a plate of fruit for me. She said that pregnant women need to supplement vitamin C so that their babies can be white and delicate. I agreed and said that I would buy some when I returned.
After dinner, Dr. Sun offered to drive me home. I originally wanted to decline, as I thought that even though I am pregnant, after all, I am still a man and don't need to be so concerned. However, Dr. Sun didn't see it that way. He said that my situation is different from that of an ordinary pregnant woman, and the consequences could be unimaginable if I'm not careful. It would be better to be cautious. I didn't want to disappoint his kindness, so I agreed.
Dr. Sun dropped me off downstairs and left. However, as I turned around to go upstairs, I saw a person standing in the pitch-black hallway. They were tall and I could smell the scent of alcohol from far away. I became alert and stood still, but the shadow moved.
A dark figure staggered towards me, clearly intoxicated. I took a couple of steps to the side, realizing that given my current situation, it wouldn't be suitable for me to engage in any conflicts. I just hoped that the target of this drunken person was not me.
However, things didn't go as planned. Seeing that I was avoiding it, the dark figure changed its direction and continued towards me, staggering in every step. I glanced around, hoping to find some handy tools.
There is a brick by the flower bed, although it's a bit brutal, at least it can protect the lives of me and the child. I just can't let my former brothers know that I used this brick to knock down a drunkard, otherwise my lifelong reputation will be ruined.
After locking on my target, I ran towards the edge of the flower bed. However, in the moment I lifted my leg, I heard a familiar voice say, "Qiao Yu..."
The call from the drunkard.
The drunken fool is none other than Shen Jialin, that bastard.
Shen Jialin staggered towards me and let out a burp. I covered my mouth and nose, disgusted, and asked, "What are you here for?"
Shen Jialin's eyes were hazy, his gaze fixed directly on my face, as he stuck out his tongue and said, "Come and take a look at you."
"What's so interesting about me?" I gave him a disdainful glance and looked around, "How did you come over?"
"Open, open the car," Shen Jialin said, then made a gagging motion, "I came by car."
I quickly grabbed his arm and dragged him towards the trash bin by the flower bed, saying, "Wait, wait! Just do it here! How much did you drink?!"
As soon as Shen Jialin saw the trash can, he immediately vomited uncontrollably. I couldn't stand the sight and covered my mouth, running to the other side of the flower bed to breathe in some fresh air.
Shen Jialin vomited for a while. When I couldn't hear any sound, I shouted, "Are you okay now?"
There was no sound coming from the other side, so I shouted again, "Come on, make a sound."
No one spoke, and I couldn't help but wonder if I would fall asleep before finishing vomiting. "You won't fall asleep, will you?"
After shouting, I realized how foolish I was. I really wanted to just walk away, but out of humanitarianism, I couldn't bring myself to do so.
I took out a tissue from my pocket, tore it in half, and stuffed it into my nose. Then I cautiously approached the area. However, when I arrived and took a look, I realized that there was nobody there at all.
Where are the people?
I looked around and walked a circle around the flower bed, but there was still no one.
Where did the person go?
After a drunkard finishes vomiting, they disappear. Where could they have gone? Did they perhaps go back?
I remembered what he said about driving, and my heart skipped a beat. It couldn't be true, right? Drunk driving? Surely, you're not that unreliable, are you?
I quickly took out my phone and dialed Shen Jialin's number. As the phone started ringing, I heard a familiar ringtone coming from the hallway of my house. Speechless, I looked up at the sky and pressed the end call button, making my way towards the hallway.
Shen Jialin sat on the stairs, leaning his upper body against the wall, with his long legs stretched out straight. When he saw me coming up, he looked pitiful and asked, "Qiao Yu, why don't you want me?"
Huh?
I...
"Why don't you want me?" The motion-sensor light in the hallway flickered on with the sound of my footsteps, casting a warm, yellow light into Shen Jialin's eyes, making them shine as if filled with countless stars. "Why did you leave me?"
