"I've never learned acting, nor do I know what you're talking about, but I can guarantee that I can act. I've read books on this topic and have a talent for it." Unable to say that she had been reborn, Gu Lan'an casually made up an excuse.
"Where do you get your confidence from?" Anna was so angry that she nearly exploded his head.
"You inherited it from your body," Gu Lan'an said with a smirk.
"Not bad, not bad, I appreciate your confidence." Unlike Anna's reaction, Shu Yang appeared very excited. After applauding and praising Gu Lanan, he couldn't wait to ask, "So, what kind of genre do you want to film?"
"Zhao Ye," Gu Lan An said softly with a touch of tenderness in her voice.
"What?" Anna furrowed her brows and asked with confusion when she understood. Before Gu Lan'an could explain, Zhu Yang pondered for a moment and guessed, "Are you thinking of shooting a play similar in style to the one chosen by Zhao Ye?"
"No," Gu Lan'an shook her head, explaining, "I want to act in the same drama as Zhao Ye. It doesn't matter what role it is, as long as it's in the same production with him."
"You're an obsessed fan of Zhao Ye?" Shuyang's face immediately fell.
"No, I want to pursue him." Since Yang has become his agent, he will eventually find out about Zhao Ye's feelings towards him. Gu Lan'an didn't plan on hiding it much anyway. Instead of letting him figure it out, she decided to entrust him with her trust and leave a good impression on him.
"Chase him?" Shu Yang furrowed her eyebrows tightly. "Are you serious? Is your purpose for entering the entertainment industry to chase after him?"
"Yes," Gu Lan'an affirmed with determination.
"No," Anna interjected simultaneously with him, giving him a resentful glance before speaking bluntly, "Lan An, don't be so sure of yourself. By cutting off your own retreat, even though you entered the entertainment industry because of him, if you can't win him over or if your interest in him is merely fleeting, what will you do with your future acting career? If you regret it later, you'll surely be too proud to ask for help, so it's better to explore other acting opportunities now. Take this Zhao Ye for example, you know that filming a single drama can easily take half a year, right?"
"I know that I won't be unable to catch up to him. If I can't, then I won't stay in the entertainment industry anymore," He had long grown tired of this hypocritical and flashy circle. If it weren't for Zhao Ye, he would never have taken a single step into it.
"You..." Anna was so angry that she couldn't say a word, but seeing her son's sudden sadness, she thought she might have hurt his self-confidence. With a sigh, she reluctantly said, "Do as you please, but if you regret it later, I won't help you. Don't forget, you only have one year here."
"Okay." Gu Lan'an responded with a sound and didn't speak anymore, while Anna sulked and turned her head without saying anything. The two fell silent for a while. Shu Yang looked at Gu Lan'an with interest, squinting his eyes and asked, "Have you ever thought about the consequences of your relationship being exposed by the media after you chase after him? You are both men, after all."
"I have thought about it, but I'm not worried because no matter the consequences, we will face them together," Gu Lan'an reassured.
"Oh? You bear the burden? It's only natural for you to bear it, but what about Zhao Ye? You're making him gamble with his past and future just to fulfill your own selfish desires. Don't you think you're being selfish?" Shu Yang's question hit the mark, leaving Gu Lan An stunned. Suddenly, a heavy stone seemed to press upon his heart, making it hard for him to breathe. Shu Yang was right; he was indeed selfish. Whether it was in his previous life when he couldn't bear the weight and ended up committing suicide, or in this life when he resolutely approached Zhao Ye, he never considered Zhao Ye's feelings. Despite claiming to love him, he was just selfishly seeking Zhao Ye's love for himself. But what could he do if he weren't selfish? He couldn't bring himself to be generous towards Zhao Ye.
With a heavy sigh, Gu Lan'an looked at Shu Yang and said to him, as well as to herself, "I admit that I am very selfish, but I am only selfish towards him. I owe him, and I will make it up to him in the future."
"Not bad, you've got character," Shu Yang had asked that question originally just to test Gu Lan'an's sincerity, in order to plan for his future, but he unexpectedly received a satisfactory reply. "Although I disagree with your attitude towards acting and the entertainment industry, I admire your courage and your attitude towards love. It's not bad to occasionally accompany someone and not focus on work for a year." After pretending to be nonchalant, Shu Yang immediately put on a serious expression and asked Gu Lan'an, "Can you film recently? There happens to be a role in Zhao Ye that just opened up, it's a good opportunity."
"Yes, anytime." Gu Lan'an's eyes brightened, unable to conceal her joy.
"Give it up, you think you can? Even singers with acting experience need to undergo extensive training before they can act in films. You, a theater fanatic, what kind of ability are you showing off?" Anna took the opportunity to deliver a cutting remark.
"Whether I can prove my abilities or not is not for you to decide now. Once I succeed in casting the roles, you will know whether I have proven myself or not," Gu Lan'an smiled indifferently. Hearing him say this, Shu Yang was taken aback, and he snapped his fingers before saying to Gu Lan'an and Anna, "I just remembered something, I need to make a phone call." He then walked to the outer room and made the call.
"Lan An, are you stupid? How can you be so certain when talking to Su Yang? You should know that one should not rely solely on one person, just like how one should not hang themselves on a crooked tree." Seeing Su Yang walk away, Anna seized the opportunity to approach Gu Lan An and give her a lesson.
"Zhao Ye is definitely not some crooked-necked tree," Gu Lan An said, stepping back a bit.
"Uh." Anna gave him a speechless look and said, "I don't care if he's some crooked-necked tree, but you can't rely on him, you have to find a way out for yourself, you know? Why does it matter if he's doing whatever you're doing, if he's not acting, are you just planning to sit idle?"
"Okay." Gu Lan'an nodded.
"Muddled, Gu Lan'an, even though I know you joined the entertainment industry for him, can't you have a bit of ambition? What happened to your previous dreams of music? Weren't you aiming to become a pop star? Why aren't you working towards that direction anymore?" Anna reproached Gu Lan'an with a righteous tone, and she couldn't deny the excitement in her heart. Oh, loyal dog, woof woof.
I threw away all my music dreams, and I don't want to be a king anymore. I don't want all these unrealistic things. All I want is Zhao Ye." Gu Lan'an looked at her irritable mother and raised her eyes, her hand supporting her head as she leaned on the sofa.
"You're beyond redemption, Gu Lan-an..." Anna wanted to continue berating him, but Gu Lan-an suddenly leaned in and squinted at Anna suspiciously. He lowered his voice and said, "Mom, didn't you support me pursuing Zhao Ye? Why are you exhibiting this attitude now? You wouldn't be lying to me, would you?"
"No, how could I deceive you? If I were deceiving you, how could I have helped you gain entry into the circle?" Anna scolded him, looking at him with an aggrieved expression, displaying a genuine and natural performance. Unfortunately, Gu Lan'an had already straightened up and averted his gaze. "I am showing this attitude for your own good. I unconditionally support you in pursuing your goals, but I do not support you completely abandoning yourself for the sake of those goals. I am your mother, and I cannot stand by and watch you fall into depravity, do you understand?"
