In the morning, as soon as she got up, Gu Lan An hurriedly made her way home. However, when she arrived at the doorstep, she came to a halt.
Looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar scenery before his eyes, he sighed and felt a mix of emotions in his heart. In his previous life, because he insisted on participating in the talent show despite his father's opposition, he had a heated argument with him. He said, "If I can't make something of myself, I will never come back, never let anyone know he's my father." In the few years before his suicide, he not only never returned home, but also pretended to be a stranger when they met. No matter how much his mother hinted or his father tried to help, he never showed any gratitude. Even though he deeply regretted it, he never once backed down. The "I was wrong" buried in his heart never had a chance to be spoken, becoming a permanent regret.
"Xiao An, you're back?" Just as Gu Lan'an was trapped in a cycle of self-blame, a voice brought his thoughts back. He looked up and saw Gu Lao Ma running towards him from behind the iron gate.
"You're the young master?" Upon hearing these words from Gu Lao Ma, the security guard, who had been observing the peculiar behavior of Gu Lan An, stood up in astonishment. He looked around, hurriedly opened the front gate.
"It's me, Fubo," Gu Lan'an greeted with a smile, walked in, and was about to ask Fubo how his health had been recently, but she was tightly embraced.
"Mum." Feeling the sudden warmth in her embrace, Gu Lanan paused for a moment, let out a deep sigh, patted Anna's shoulder, and hoarsely said, "I'm back."
"Welcome back, it's good that you're back," Anna patted his back with relief, stepping back to examine him carefully from head to toe. She couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache, "It's only been a few days, how did you lose so much weight?"
I haven't lost weight, I just changed into a set of clothes that make me look slimmer," Gu Lan An sniffed, revealing a smile.
"Don't deceive me. If I've lost weight, how would I not know?" Anna frowned and looked at him with increasing worry. The more she looked, the more her heart ached. She started to nag like a biological mother, "I'm telling you, you really are something. You disappeared in a fit of anger and didn't bother to call me every day to let me know you're safe. You don't even know how to take care of yourself properly. You're already a grown adult, yet you're still as immature as a child. And your father too, he doesn't know to come and check on you, to comfort you, to pave the way for you..." Anna spoke with enthusiasm, but Gu Lan'an didn't interrupt her. He simply stood by, smiling faintly as he listened to her nagging. In the past, he would have been utterly fed up, finding an excuse to leave before she finished talking. But now, he felt that this moment was particularly heartwarming. People often learn to cherish only after losing something, and he was grateful that he had a remedy for regrets.
"Mom, are you done talking? Are you thirsty?" Seeing Anna stop exhaling, Gu Lan'an approached with a playful smile, asking with infinite indulgence.
"Not finished speaking, but I'm thirsty," Anna replied.
"Then let's go home and have some water first. You can continue speaking after you finish drinking," Gu Lan'an said, pushing Anna forward.
"Okay." Although he agreed verbally, Anna couldn't help but start ranting again after a few steps, never straying from her typical nagging: "Why don't you know how to take care of yourself?"
"Mum, where is Dad? Has he come back?" cheng Anna paused again, and Gu Lan'an asked.
"Welcome back, he's inside sitting. It was him who told me that you came back today," Anna replied and glanced at Gu Lan'an. Looking at the villa ahead, she spoke earnestly, "Lan'an, you've grown up now and should understand reason. Although your father has always lived independently and stubbornly like an old child, he has experienced trials and tribulations. The decisions he makes are always for your own good. Since you have willingly come back now, don't hold a grudge against him anymore. When you see him later, soften your attitude, have a good conversation with him, and stop provoking his anger. He's getting old and can't take it."
