In the entire venue, it seemed that only Mr. Yan was wholeheartedly and attentively tasting the wine. The black orbs of his eyes reflected various colorful or pure wines. The scar on his left cheek became increasingly subdued and gentle. In the act of raising the cup, he always followed his own rhythm, unaffected by anyone else. After surveying everyone present, Gu Qinglan's gaze was ultimately drawn to this spiritually independent existence.
At the end of the banquet, it is customary to serve a selection of exquisite pastries.
Gu Qinglan stretched her neck and looked at the flowing food table behind the figure. Exquisite biscuits and cakes were placed in adorable containers, with vibrant colors. The petite portions were just right, making one's appetite soar at first glance.
The cake in the shape of a wine bottle and the cookies resembling grapes, along with the candy-flavored wine glasses, macarons, and cheese, were said to have been specially baked by an international team of pastry chefs hired by the organizers for the tasting event.
As Gu Qinglan watched, she couldn't help but swallow her saliva.
The cocktail party was coming to an end, and Mr. Zhong left early, giving him a nicely packaged cake.
Gu Qinglan wanted to decline, but Zhong Qi smiled slightly, "Being falsely modest may cause you to miss out on delicious food."
Gu Qinglan quickly took it and a grateful smile, reminiscent of a foodie, appeared on her face. She turned her gaze to the young Master Zhai, who was coldly staring at her without diverting his eyes. The cold, gray pupils were sharp and piercing under the illumination of the lights.
Gu Qinglan's heart skipped a beat. She quickly caught up to Zhong Qi and handed the cake back to him, saying, "Sorry, Mr. Zhong. I suddenly remembered that the doctor told me I have diabetes. You should keep it for yourself."
Diabetes? You eat peppermint candies every day more happily than anyone else...
"Are you sure?" Zhong Qi was startled.
"Mmm!" Gu Qinglan nodded heavily, more like knocking her head against the cake.
It's time to part ways with a heavy heart. Mr. Yan is also about to return home, seemingly deprived of the chance to enjoy the delectable cuisine. A man in his seventies, who appears to be the owner of the luxurious mansion, personally escorted Mr. Yan to the car and gave him two pastries and a bottle of red wine as a farewell gift.
Mr. Yan, I truly appreciate your presence today and your fair evaluation of our winery's wine. Thank you for your hard work.
Gu Qinglan could sense Mr. Yan's position in the wine tasting industry, as only he was given a send-off by the host.
As I looked at the two servings of pastries on the leather sofa all the way, Gu Qinglan's eyes stopped moving.
Mr. Yan opened the first box of snacks, which were incredibly cute cookies that were shaped like round grapes. Gu Qinglan furrowed his brows, blinked his eyes with longing, pursed his lips, and looked extremely conflicted.
If Mr. Yan gives it to him, will he have the audacity to accept it?
Mr. Yan didn't seem to have any intention of giving it to him. He just said, "As someone like me who is slow when it comes to food, it would be a waste."
Gu Qinglan hesitated to speak, "If you gave it to me, it wouldn't go to waste."
Mr. Yan simply refused to meet the intense gaze of the person in front of him and placed the food back into the box.
Gu Qinglan finally showed a sincere expression and said, "It's okay, I am willing to help Mr. Yan bear this pain."
Mr. Yan remained noncommittal.
Gu Qinglan was indeed willing to go all out just for the sake of eating. "Please entrust it to me, Mr. Yan. I will eradicate this group of demons and never give them a chance to resurrect."
"You've really worked hard," Mr. Yan smiled faintly and placed the snacks on the table.
"For Mr. Yan to go through fire and water, of course, is a duty he would never refuse," Gu Qinglan said as he took the biscuit with both hands. His solemn manner and sorrowful appearance were reminiscent of receiving an urn.
The problem arose – would it seem too eager to eat now? Gu Qinglan pursed her lips, deep in thought.
"Go ahead and eat." how could Mr. Yan not understand the thoughts of this foodie.
Gu Qinglan opened the outer box and caught a whiff of a delightful fragrance. The biscuits, shaped like grapes, were hung on a sugar twig, with the grape skin on the outside made of an unknown material. It was crispy and dissolved in water, like candy paper but not candy paper. It filled the mouth with a gentle and fragrant aroma. The crunchy sound of biting into the delicious biscuits could be heard, along with the aroma of almonds and egg yolks, enveloping a central hint of sesame yogurt cheese.
"Smells so good." Gu Qinglan let out a satisfying sigh.
Mr. Yan recalled the childhood memories of watching "The Chinese Young Chefs". The enchanting appearance of those paper-cut figures was no less impressive than that of Gu Qinglan.
The taste of the second grape was completely different. Within the crispy and fragrant biscuit, authentic minced beef was mixed with raisins, enveloped by a hint of peanut butter.
The taste of each grape is different. Gu Qinglan guarantees that this is the most delicious biscuit he has ever eaten.
Mr. Yan was really curious about what kind of beauty could make someone feel so satisfied.
Gu Qinglan used the silver knife that came with the box to cut each grape biscuit in half, one half for each of them. Gu Qinglan told Mr. Yan about the taste of each one, but Mr. Yan, while able to sense the crispy texture in his mouth, found them lacking in flavor on his tongue.
This was a unique experience. Mr. Yan watched as Gu Qinglan focused intently on the flavors, making a great effort to taste every kind of ingredient in the complex cookies in order to understand their supposed taste.
Mr. Yan couldn't truly taste the mixed flavors of nuts with fruits or egg yolk cheese that Gu Qinglan mentioned. However, the aroma that catered to them made his taste buds gradually blend with the essence of the food, and his mind and body gradually became comfortable.
Gu Qinglan suddenly lifted her head, her eyes brimming with a sparkling radiance as they collided with his gaze. "Mr. Yan, is it delicious?"
Mr. Yan was momentarily stunned before he said, "Delicious."
"Why isn't there a chocolate flavor?"
Wine is not suitable to be consumed together with chocolate. Therefore, chocolate desserts are generally not prepared for wine tasting events.
Gu Qinglan nodded and said, "Could it be that Mr. Yan has never tasted the taste of food since he was born?"
