When it comes to exams involving parent-teacher meetings, the situation changes. This is especially true for those students who are not particularly active in their studies, as they wrack their brains to try and squeeze out a few more points.
Yu Zhao Yu finished his nine subject exams. His exam room was in Grade 18, and his seat was in the last row near the window. The classmates next to him were all from the other classes. Although he didn't know them, after some mutual understanding, whether it was the girl in front of him or the boy to his right, they were willing to find a moment when the invigilator wasn't paying much attention to let him take a quick glance.
He initially thought that cheating would go so smoothly, and he could advance a great deal in the class rankings. However, a few days later when the exam results were released, he still ranked in the last hundred. It seems that the two people he copied from were not good students either.
The big list was posted on the wall next to the blackboard in front of the classroom. The pages were constantly being flipped through by the students gathered around it.
From Zhaoyu's perspective, he saw Yan Zizheng's name on the last page and nudged the person next to him, saying, "Damn, didn't you say you answered this one well?"
Yan Zizheng walked out of the front door, muttering, "I changed my mind halfway."
Zhaoyu followed him out and asked, "Who will come to the parent-teacher meeting this Friday?"
"No one."
"Didn't your father go to your sister's sports meeting a few days ago? Couldn't he make time to come along for the parent-teacher meeting while he was at it?"
Yan Zizheng hummed disdainfully, "I actually hope he can come along as well."
"My dad is coming for sure. I'm really afraid that Zou Jing will embellish things even more."
Yan Zizheng turned his head and asked with interest, "Besides your dad, is there anyone else you're afraid of?"
Who's afraid of him, I'm afraid of my dad listening to him talking nonsense, that idiot...
As Yu Zhaoyu was speaking, Yan Zizheng grabbed his arm hard. He lifted his head and saw Zou Jing coming towards them.
Zou Jing clearly heard the impolite words, but his eyebrows didn't furrow. He pointed at Zhaoyu's half-worn school uniform jacket and said, "At school, there is a certain way students should dress. Either wear it, or take it off. Look at what you look like."
Inside Zhao Yu's school uniform, he wore a black shirt. He casually draped a light-colored school uniform jacket over his shoulders, with both sleeves tied in front of his chest. Walking like a grand hero, he felt pretty pleased with himself, but he was rejected. Feeling dissatisfied, he forcefully took off the jacket and hung it on his shoulders. Gritting his teeth and watching Zou Jing's retreating figure, he vowed to play the role of a submissive student before the parent-teacher meeting and then reveal his true self after it was over.
This information technology class takes place in the computer room. All the students who come to class must put on shoe covers before entering the room.
Looking into the distance, all that could be seen at the entrance were figures either stooping or crouching.
Zhaoyu never prepared shoe covers. Yan Zizheng gave him one, and then put the remaining one on his right foot.
The two walked side by side, their feet in shoe covers sliding to the outside. They entered the computer room under the lenient inspection of the teacher.
The seats in their computer class are not fixed, which is why some students arrive early to claim the better machines.
Yan Zizheng doesn't care where he sits, he just sits wherever there is an empty seat.
Because there were no available seats next to each other, he and You Zhaoyu had to sit apart, one in front of the other. As soon as they sat down, someone behind him kicked his chair.
"I regret it now. Let's escape and go to an Internet cafe."
Yan Zizheng turned around and lowered his voice, saying, "I have no objection if you want to cause trouble for me before the parent-teacher meeting."
Yao Zhaoyu felt bored and took out his mobile phone. He used his computer as a cover to play games, completely blocking out the words of the computer teacher in front.
The teacher, wearing glasses, reminded the students before the official class started to use the machine on the upper right corner of the desk to sign in on their notebooks.
Yan Zizheng took out that little notebook and, upon flipping it open, was astonished to see Lin Jinglei's name.
It seems that Class 18 has a fixed position, otherwise how could those three characters rotate after every few rows? He raised the corner of his mouth, picked up his pen, wrote something, and then neatly placed the notebook back.
Just as he had settled down, Lin Jinglei, with his back hunched, entered through the back door. He even thought he was seeing things.
Not only was Yan Zizheng dumbfounded, but the students of Class 17 who saw Lin Jinglei entering were also stunned. Although they were puzzled, no one spoke up.
Yu Zhaoyu also looked towards Lin Jinglei sitting in front of the computer not far away and whispered to Yan Zizheng, "Damn, what's up with this kid?"
Yan Zizheng shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know."
After confirming that their information teacher was the target Lin Tai had been keeping an eye on, Lin Jinglei had been trying to find a way to approach him over the past two days.
He managed to get a hold of Teacher Ming's class schedule and decided to keep an eye on him during the last class, wanting to see if his actions after school are the same as what Lin Tai said. He skipped self-study class just to make sure he doesn't lose track of him after school. The chaos after school at No.1 Middle School is damn terrifying, with people crammed together. It would be too late to approach the target by then.
He didn't know anyone in Class 17, so he sneaked in. He was also afraid that his classmates in Class 17 would expose him on the spot. However, these idiots unexpectedly helped him out without even batting an eye. It was really fucking considerate of them.
The teachers think that these two classes don't get along, but it's not actually that serious. Ever since he eased tensions with Yan Zizheng and You Zhaoyu, it seems like all the conflicts aren't as deep anymore. At least the fact that this group of people hasn't kicked him out is a good sign.
The first year high school group had the same computer teacher, who was unmarried at the age of thirty. From what Lin Tai said, his aunt suspected that this woman had an affair with his uncle when she saw them together on the street, which led to their argument and her returning to her parents' home.
In terms of appearance, Lin Jinglei had to admit that Ming Lao Shi was much prettier than his aunt. However, in terms of morality, if this woman was really trying to destroy the relationship between his uncle and aunt, he would not allow her to stay at Yizhong Middle School.
Twenty minutes later, the theoretical knowledge was put into practice, and the students went from listening to the class to doing hands-on activities.
Lin Jinglei thought that the difficulties pointed out by the teacher were nothing compared to child's play. He had already mastered these techniques in middle school and could easily handle them when the teacher came to check and give guidance.
Ming Miao taught too many classes, unable to remember specifically which class each student belonged to. However, when Lin Jinglei appeared in this class, she had no doubts at all.
After taking a walk around, she sits back in front of the computer at the podium and says while clicking the mouse, "Only one student in your class has completely correct operation. Let me explain it again."
The seat number marked on the screen was shining. Many eyes turned towards seat number sixty-seven. Hearing the discussions, Lin Jinglei thought to himself that he had really made a big show of acting cool. It seemed like he really had to go wait outside the door.
The class representative of Class 17 couldn't sit still anymore. With a face that seemed eager to report to the teacher, they raised their hand.
Lin Jinglei felt that he had no choice but to go out. Before he could even make a move, the boy sitting behind him reached out and pressed down on the arm he was holding up.
Yu Zekai turned around inexplicably and looked at Yan Zizheng.
Yan Zizheng whispered, "Listen to your lesson and don't interfere in other people's business."
Yu Zekai met Yan Zizheng's icy gaze and immediately turned away.
At a critical moment, Lin Jinglei's heart was upset by the unexpected help from his mortal enemy. He diverted his gaze from the collision with Yan Zizheng and turned his attention back to the screen.
Yan Zizheng straightened his posture. He couldn't tell whether it was out of urgency or curiosity just now. He didn't know when it started, but he couldn't stand seeing Lin Jinglei with a furrowed brow due to anxiety.
This paragraph translates to: "For the first time in Lin Jinglei's life, he followed a member of the opposite sex. Like a perverted student infatuated with a young and beautiful unmarried female teacher, he followed Ming Miao all the way to the supermarket after school."
This supermarket is located underground in a large shopping mall and it is currently the peak evening rush hour. Many office workers come here after work to buy groceries, so there is a particularly large number of people coming in and out.
Mr. Ming pushed the shopping cart ahead, while Lin Jinglei walked behind at a distance. He remembered that his aunt also liked to come to this supermarket to buy groceries, saying that the vegetables here were clean and fresh. He hadn't had a meal made by his aunt for many days. Instead of having regular three meals a day, it had become optional for breakfast, eating at the cafeteria for lunch, and fooling around with his uncle for dinner when he got back home.
Lin Jing Lei raised one arm and sighed as he looked at it. He seemed to have become thinner. With his aunt not around, he was in a sorry state. There was no delicious food for him to eat, no clean clothes to change into, and no pocket money to spare.
He stared closely at Ming Miao as she picked vegetables, she didn't seem like she was intruding, but without further interaction, he couldn't be sure.
This female teacher kept wandering in the supermarket without end, going back and forth in repetitive paths. Women really drag things out when shopping, why don't they decide on what to buy beforehand and then come? Lin Jinglei couldn't understand.
As he was weaving through the snacks section, he collided with an oncoming shopping cart.
There was a little girl sitting in the car, and no matter how you looked at her, she seemed familiar. As Lin Jinglei furrowed his brows in thought, the little girl also looked at him with her big eyes. Suddenly, she reached out with her small hand and grabbed the sleeve of his clothes, laughing. There were two missing teeth in her upper row of teeth that were revealed, making her look especially cute and funny.
Lin Jinglei also smiled and looked up at the man pushing the cart. In terms of appearance, the little girl had some resemblance to him, indicating a father-daughter relationship.
A sudden flash crossed his mind, and he remembered where he had seen this little girl before.
Isn't this Yan Zizheng's younger sister? I saw her during the previous fight. Now that I'm taking a closer look, this little girl is really adorable, much cuter than her brother.
After bumping into those two guys, Lin Jinglei fell into deep thought. How come he can't be bothered by Yan Zizheng now? It's really strange.
He only slipped away for a few seconds. When he looked up again, Ming Miao's figure was gone, all his previous efforts wasted.
He suddenly didn't feel like going home for dinner. His uncle's cooking was so bad, he even despised the wheat ears in the dish. He wanted to eat out, but it didn't feel right to go alone, so he decided to call his uncle first before asking Tang Shan to join him.
As soon as he connected the call from his uncle, he heard the sound of a ringing phone nearby.
Lin Jinglei would rather believe that it was someone else using the same ringtone as Principal Lin, rather than seeing the figure of someone bent over and digging through their phone right in front of the condiment shelf as soon as he approached.
He stood there blankly, watching his uncle and Teacher Ming beside him with a smile, indicating that he would take a call first. Then, just as his uncle was about to slide to answer the call, he pressed hard and hung up the phone.
He really wanted to rush over, but he suppressed the heaving in his chest, turned around, and quickly walked away, using the shelves as cover.
Over the past few days, Zhaoyu has been very obedient, coming home from school on time. Although his father comes home later than him, his father would ask him indirectly when the aunt who cooks for their family returned home.
The food was placed on the table for a long time, but his dad still hadn't returned. The aunt signaled for him to eat first, saying that they would reheat it when his dad came back.
Even though Zhaoyu was very hungry, he still decided to sit over there and play with his phone while waiting. As soon as he heard the sound of a car entering the courtyard, he immediately ran out.
As soon as he realized that the guy didn't come out to meet him, a box was pulled out from the backseat and placed into his son's hands. "I've fulfilled my promise to you, now it's time for you to fulfill yours," he said.
Looking at the lively fluffy bundle inside the cardboard box, Zhaoyu smiled and said, "Thanks, Dad."
Before this exam, he told his dad that as long as his grades didn't decline, he wanted to raise a dog.
At that time, his father raised an eyebrow and asked him, "Do you still have room for further decline in your grades?"
He mocked him and then praised him. That's his dad. Zhang Zhaoyu laughed so hard that his mouth couldn't close, teasing the little dog in his arms, and then took out his phone to call Yan Zizheng.
"Hey, my dog is back. Come take a look."
Yan Zizheng was tidying up the room, holding a wet rag in his hand, and had to put his phone on speaker mode. The whole house was filled with the extremely excited voice of Zhao Yu.
He furrowed his brow and said, "Why is your dog so dignified that I have to go see it?"
Xiao Qing said she wants to see it, so bring her over.
"She wasn't at home, she had already let my dad take her away before I came back."
Yu Zhaoyu was surprised: "What's the situation with your dad? Why is he suddenly so concerned about the child?"
"Not sure what's gotten into him, saying he's going shopping for clothes," Yan Zizheng sighed and changed the subject, "What breed is the dog your dad got for you?"
"Husky, it's only one month old, but it's already full of energy. I'll take a picture and send it to you right away."
After checking the selfie of Zhao Yu embracing the dog, Yan Zizheng laughed and said, "You really know how to choose. This dog not only looks like you, but also has the same personality."
"Tsk, the way you speak, you..."
Yu Gang knocked on the table and looked at his son, who was holding a dog and a mobile phone without eating. He pointed at him from a distance with chopsticks and said, "You, eat your meal."
Just now, Yao Zhaoyu, who had intended to scold Yan Zizheng fiercely, suddenly became timid. He hastily hung up the phone and picked up the chopsticks.
The father looked at his son and continued, "Put the dog down."
The little husky landed on all fours and darted under the table.
Yan Ziqing returned home and rushed into the house, happily bouncing and jumping around. Yan Zizheng rarely saw his younger sister this joyful, so he smiled and asked what was going on.
"Daddy bought me a lot, a lot of delicious food," Yan Ziqing exclaimed, gesturing as she spoke with an exaggerated tone.
"What about others?"
"In the car outside, I didn't get out to answer the phone."
Yan Zizheng got up and walked out of the house. Seeing that his father did not drive the car into the yard, he knew that this person had no intention of coming in.
Sure. Here's the translation:
Sure enough, after the man got off the car, he waved to him and said, "Come and take all the things back."
As Yan Zizheng approached, he looked at his father, who had tidied up his hair and shaved off his beard. It felt like the Dr. Yan from two years ago had returned.
A whole backpack full of shopping bags, filled with clothes, snacks, fruits, vegetables, meat, and even two dolls.
Yan Zizheng stood there and asked the person who was bending down to take something out, "Can you go to my parents' meeting on Friday afternoon?"
Yan Sijun's body stiffened for a moment, and then he continued with his actions, saying, "I'll be leaving tomorrow."
Yan Zizheng was taken aback: "Where are you going?"
"Go to your old aunt."
"What are you going to do?"
"Don't ask so many questions, child."
Yan Zizheng had many questions in mind. What are you going to do? How long will you be gone? Will you come back? What about me and Yan Ziqing? Will you still take care of us?
But he didn't ask anything else. He knew that even if he asked, he wouldn't hear an answer.
After Yan Sijun took out everything and placed it on the ground, he looked back at his son. Before getting into the car, he handed over a bank card and left without saying a word.
Yan Zizheng stood still for a while before beginning to carry things back one by one.
He insisted on helping his sister Yan Ziqing by only taking a small amount of items each time, like an apple or two potatoes. The little kid almost accompanied his brother without any burden as they constantly went in and out.
"I just saw that older brother at the supermarket, the one who got into a fight with you once."
"Which one?" Yan Zizheng asked patiently.
His eyes were blue.
The description was too accurate that Yan Zizheng found solace in his heart, which had been heavy with the sorrow of his father's heartless departure. "Is he all alone?"
