"Enough." Jiang Ruochen growled, his eyes unkind. It was obvious that he was angry.
"Is my company not big enough? Why would I need your company, Father?" Jiang Ruochen raised his eyebrows slightly, his entire body exuding a teasing aura.
Then, Jiang Ruochen turned his gaze to me and said to Jiang's father, "I don't need you to approve of my character, but you should know who is the one who ruined the reputation of the Jiang family."
"You..." This was probably the first time Jiang's father had been rebutted by his son like this. His fingers were trembling, and he couldn't say a word.
After shaking for a while, Jiang's father slammed the table and pointed at Jiang Ruochen's nose, cursing, "You are a CEO! Don't you really need to create a social image?! If your reputation is ruined because of a woman, how will you bear the consequences?!"
Jiang's father's words were harsh, but they didn't make sense. I glanced at Jiang Ruochen from the corner of my eye, who was sitting there being pointed at and scolded.
Jiang Ruochen always protected me and cared for me. One cannot be ungrateful. I need to help him as much as I can!
Thinking of this, I smiled and said, "Uncle."
"What do you have to say?" Jiang's father was furious, and I was the "culprit" he called me. So, he didn't have a good tone for me.
"I don't know if you are aware of the matter of my huge dowry." I smiled as I spoke, observing every detail of my predecessor's expression.
Jiang's father frowned at first, then said firmly, "What? You still want to ask for a dowry back?"
"If Jiang Ming hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known that you insisted on buying a house with a view of the sea at the most difficult time in the family! You didn't have enough dowry! It was I who paid for it!" Jiang's father's mood rose even more when this matter was mentioned.
When I heard this, I couldn't help but laugh and say, "It seems that Uncle still doesn't know the true whereabouts of this dowry."
After that, I opened the papers in my bag and put them on the table.
These documents were originally meant for Jiang Ming, but I didn't expect them to be used in the old house.
In the last few years, Jiang Ming's investment plans, bills, and time were all clearly written down in the document. The fact that I had helped Jiang Ming through a difficult time could be said to be on paper.
"A few years ago, Jiang Ming squandered all his money. If I hadn't given him the dowry, I'm afraid he would have been kicked out of the house by you." I said every word with conviction.
Jiang's father's entire body was trembling at this moment. It was obvious that he was furious. He carefully flipped through the documents on the table, and the more he read, the more furious he became.
Jiang's father should know in his heart who cheated first in my marriage with Jiang Ming. If it wasn't for the fact that I had no children, he would have been on my side a long time ago.
I looked at every detail of Jiang's father and was convinced that he didn't know about the dowry. It seemed that Jiang Ming had lied to him.
After a long while, Jiang's father let out a long sigh and sat down tiredly. He lowered his head and couldn't say a word.
I looked at Jiang's father's embarrassed expression and put away the documents on the table one by one. I pursed my lips and returned to my original position.
"But, no matter what, I will never agree to you two being together." The silent Jiang's father suddenly spoke with a firm tone.
"Yaxin, you're a good child. Please let Ruochen go. The most important thing in the Jiang family is a perfect match." After saying that, Jiang's father paused for a moment and said again, "Your reputation... You should know it."
"Enough." Jiang Ruochen, who was at the side, opened his mouth when he heard that, "Father, Mother, I'll be leaving first. I'm afraid I won't come back in the future."
Before I could explain, Jiang Ruochen had already dragged me out of the house.
"Don't you need to explain our relationship to uncle?" I looked at him holding my hand and stopped in my tracks. I was afraid that I would ruin his relationship with his family. I already owe him enough.
Jiang Ruochen didn't say anything, he just turned his head and stared at me. I don't know why, but I felt like there was a fire burning around him.
Jiang Ruochen didn't answer my question directly. Instead, he pulled me into the car and squeezed out the word "go" through his teeth.
Looking at the other party's tense mouth and tightly knitted brows, I knew that he was angry.
The car was eerily quiet. I carefully observed Jiang Ruochen's every move, and saw that he had been sitting upright in his seat the whole time, his eyes straight and his face unfriendly.
It was only when the car was three blocks away from home that the awkwardness was broken by the sudden ringtone of a phone.
Jiang Ruochen looked down at the phone screen and picked it up.
Although I didn't have a loudspeaker on, I could hear a lot of noise coming from the other side of the phone. Plus, I was only a few centimeters away from Jiang Ruochen, so I could hear everything that was said on the other end of the line.
Jiang Ruochen just listened quietly, not saying a word. When the other party finished speaking, he hung up without hesitation.
I looked at Jiang Ruochen, who was silent beside me, and finally mustered up the courage to speak.
"Something happened at the company, right?" Jiang Ruochen heard me and didn't answer directly. Instead, he glanced at me out of the corner of his eye and asked in a low voice, "Did you hear it?"
"Yes." I nodded and said honestly.
"Is there something wrong with my plan?" I frowned and asked nervously, afraid that I would cause trouble for Jiang Ruochen again.
"No." Jiang Ruochen looked down at the photo sent by the other party on his phone and confirmed, "Your plan has been replaced."
"Switched?" I couldn't help but cover my mouth and exclaim. Everyone knew that this project was one of the company's lifeline projects. If there was even the slightest difference, the price would be incalculable.
Thinking of this, I couldn't help but ask, "Then does the higher-ups want us to return to the company now?"
Jiang Ruochen looked at my anxious expression and did not say anything. He first looked at the sky outside the window, then flipped through his address book and said, "It might rain today. Tomorrow."
I looked at Jiang Ruochen's indifferent attitude and felt a little anxious. He was the CEO of the company, and I was just a small employee. It didn't matter that he had lost his job, but I had lost mine! It's equivalent to losing all my financial resources!
I was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. Just as I was about to persuade Jiang Ruochen to go back to the company, he suddenly made a phone call and said coldly into the phone, "I'll email you the documents."
"Let's go back to the office," I said as soon as he hung up. "If something goes wrong with the project, the consequences will be dire."
