After so many years in the business world, in the company, and in the market, I knew that a senior official could crush a person to death.
But...
I carefully thought about what Jiang Ruochen had done during this period of time, as well as his true strength, and decided that he would definitely help me.
With a backer, of course, I would have the confidence to speak.
Thinking of this, I cleared my throat and spoke with a smile on my face, "You really know how to talk. Even our manager's serious style can be described by you in such an interesting way."
I rolled my eyes like an old fox and spoke again, "However, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. We can't be careless when it comes to work."
"We should know where we are and do what we should do." I put on a fake smile that implied something, and the two people in front of me couldn't say a word. I squinted my eyes and admired Lin Ziqian's face, which had turned the color of a pig's liver, and couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in my heart.
With that, I watched Jiang Ruochen's every move out of the corner of my eye. He didn't move at all.
The corner of his mouth... seemed to have a faint smile?
"You have a sharp tongue, but your smile is fake!" Hearing that, Lin Ziqian angrily stomped her feet, then leaned against Fu Hee and pretended to be weak as she snorted.
Fu Hee was, after all, a director. Naturally, he couldn't bear to lose face, so he found an excuse, exchanged a few pleasantries, threw down the documents he had been carrying on his back, and left in a hurry.
Although Lin Ziqian looked happy, I clearly noticed that her charming eyes were filled with unwillingness and pity.
It was also true that when Jiang Ruochen and Fu Hee were together, the difference between them was obvious. The excellence of the former's appearance and ability was self-evident. If a woman lost the chance to stay by Jiang Ruochen's side, she would probably be unhappy.
"I'll leave you to it, then," I said, and when everything was quiet again, I bowed and prepared to leave the office.
Jiang Ruochen buried his face in the computer screen. He didn't raise his head and only said, "Okay."
When the day's work was finally over, I closed my notebook and stretched. The first day of work was always hard, but a familiar sense of satisfaction gripped me.
How long has it been since I last tasted the sense of accomplishment from work?
Should I go and say hello to him before I leave? I stared at the door of the office, my lips pursed in hesitation. Maybe Jiang Ruochen was working and didn't like to be disturbed?
Just as I was hesitating, the person inside pushed the door open and came out. Jiang Ruochen had put on his suit jacket.
I stood up unhurriedly and lowered my head slightly. "Chief Inspector Jiang."
"Yes." He didn't say anything else and just walked forward. I stood in my position and prepared to watch him leave.
However, the person who was supposed to take the elevator to leave suddenly turned around and frowned at me. He said calmly, "You're not leaving?"
"I'll pack up and leave immediately." Jiang Ruochen nodded after hearing that. He looked at his watch and did not do anything else. I looked at him suspiciously out of the corner of my eye. Was he waiting for me?
"Director, I'm ready to leave." I smiled and greeted the person in front of me. I looked at the open elevator door and asked politely, "Are you leaving?"
Jiang Ruochen didn't say anything and walked in first.
Although we live in the same house, I've never thought about going to work with him at work. So, when I saw the Mercedes-Benz in front of me, I couldn't help but feel flattered.
"Let's go eat." No matter what time it was, Jiang Ruochen would always sit up straight, which made people sigh at his meticulousness.
"No need, I'm not hungry." I already owe him enough favors, I don't want to trouble him anymore.
Suddenly, my stomach started to growl. I turned my head away in embarrassment. My ears were red and I kept complaining about how my stomach was so 'coincidental'.
Jiang Ruochen seemed to laugh lightly and ordered the driver to turn around and head straight for a restaurant with a familiar name. I turned to look at him.
I pursed my lips and thought, 'Maybe it's my job to eat together after work. After all, I'm a personal assistant.'
Thinking about that, I felt better.
I got out of the car and walked respectfully behind him, my head bowed. I owed him a favor, and even after a short period of training, I didn't dare to walk into such an expensive restaurant.
Jiang Ruochen seemed to be a regular customer here, and when the staff saw him, they immediately came up to him and led us into a private room.
This was a Japanese restaurant. Obviously, it was not a place that Jiang Ruochen, who only ate Chinese food, would choose.
But he was unfathomable. I don't need to guess. I'll just eat my fill.
I simply ordered a few cheap dishes and sat on the stool, watching the man in front of me skillfully order dishes.
The restaurant was so efficient that it didn't take long for all the good things to be served, and I ate a little too fast because of my hunger, but the delicious flavors still exploded on my tongue.
The taste was so familiar...
"Do you feel very familiar?" Jiang Ruochen seemed to have seen through my thoughts as he spoke slowly.
I swallowed the thing in my mouth and looked up at him in shock.
"This is the place you came to most often before you got married. Have you forgotten?" Jiang Ruochen put down his chopsticks and said word by word.
After being reminded by him, I suddenly realized that my family background was not bad in the past. It could even be said that I was rich. When I was free, I would ask my little sisters out for dinner.
I looked around. Although the place had been renovated, the service and the taste were perfect.
"You need to find it bit by bit." Jiang Ruochen gestured with his eyes to the food and said, "Let's eat."
After what had happened these past few days, I already knew what he meant by "find it."
I didn't understand why Jiang Ruochen would do such a thing for me. Maybe I wasn't strong enough, and he needed me to be sharper and more confident.
"Alright." I looked at him gratefully, then picked up my chopsticks and continued to eat.
I had a great time eating, and as I watched Jiang Ruochen pay for the expensive meal, I swore to myself that I would find my way back, bit by bit.
When we returned home after eating and drinking, it was already nine o'clock in the evening. I followed him into the house and suddenly smelled gunpowder in the air.
