Jane Lim barely slept these days. She stayed in the hospital and took care of Frank Su day and night. Although Wayne hired some nurses for Frank, she still accompanied him as she felt extremely guilty about what happened to the guy.
After seeing Frank off, she had to rush to the company and solved a bunch of problems about the real estate project with Mr James.
The project needed to be worked on as soon as possible. However, the accident happened to Frank at the site somehow went virus all over Hammerfest and was gossiped by local people.
Rumors like poor quality condition, ineffective safety measures for works, the place around Herb Village was haunted, and the like flew everywhere over the media.
Government officials took great importance on this project and some major leaders even came to pay a visit at the site after the incident.
Not only did Mr James had to make an explanation to those leaders, but also needed to minimize the destructive influence to the company from the media.
He had been extremely anxious and stressed recently.
As a vice manager in charge of this project, Jane Lim must be more alert and exert all efforts for the company.
“What happened at the construction site was filmed and posted on social media, which has resulted to great damage to the image and reputation of the company. Rumors fly all over the Internet. In order to solve this problem better, we must make a one-off comprehensive clarification.” Jane Lim claimed her proposal in the meeting room at Hammerfest branch office.
“That’s correct. But we are lack of valid evidence to prove what we will state. If we merely emphasize that they are just rumors, we’ll not achieve what we want.” Mr James was worried and didn’t know how to respond accordingly. He wanted to help but the problem was too tricky.
“Mr Chen,” the entire meeting room turned silent and all staff stood up as Wayne Chen stepped in.
As the guy was sitting in his chair, the rest of those in the room even didn’t dare to look up and waited for his statement.
Wayne Chen frowned and pinched his forehead. Then he just tossed a pile of files to Mr James.
“I believe all of you here are elites of the Hammerfest branch office of P&F Corporation. Now the company is facing some problems. Here are the inspection report of the accident and profiles of suspects, I wish you all would collaborate well with Mr James.”
Wayne Chen looked up. His stern eyes were deep and gave ultimately deterrent force, which made no one dare to give another word.
So things went on exactly as what Wayne planned to be.
Mr James led his staff to work overtime to sort out and summarize the materials, draw up a unified statement for the media and the public, and send relevant reports given by the Public Security Bureau of Hammerfest.
Statement: P&F Corporation shall make a confirmation against all rumors on the Internet about the tourist site project run by the branch office at Hammerfest as the following:
1. The cause of the accident at the construction site was deliberately caused by villager Peter Pettigrew. The criminal has been handed over to the relevant legal department for further processes.
2. The company shall look into any companies and individuals that maliciously spread false statements according to law.
Hereby make the declaration.”
So what had happened on the construction site came to an end like this.
This was what all rumors evolve--they were merely just gossiped by people for a period of time and would be soon forgot by any other news.
But Jane Lim was seriously ill.
When she opened the office door and was to make a report about the latest condition of the project to Wayne, she fell in a faint.
When Jane woke up, she found she was already lying in her bedroom at Hammerfest. As a matter of fact, she caught a serious flu and she even didn’t realize her coughing and headache for she was too immersed in her work.
A middle-aged woman gently pushed the door open and asked,
“Miss Lim, you’re awake?”
An extreme sense of pain hit her head that she felt quite feeble so she just replied with a simple sigh.
The woman hurried to her bed and checked to make sure if she still had the fever.
“Miss Lim, you’ve not get completely well. But your fever’s gonna go soon. I advise you to lie in bed for a few days to get fully recovered in case being sick again.”
On noticing Jane’s interrogative eyes, the middle-aged woman tapped her lap and laughed,
“Well, look at me, I forgot to make an introduction to myself.”
“It is Mr Chen that called me to look after you. You may call me nanny Wang. If you need anything, just tell me. The doctor said you passed out because you worked too hard and burned out. All you need to do now is getting enough rest and relax. I’m going to bring you my special porridge in the kitchen for you. Wait a minute.”
“Thank you very much, nanny Wang.” At this moment, Jane was assured and felt a little bit hungry.
After having a bowl of nice and warm porridge, Jane felt pretty energized.
Then she noticed nanny Wang was standing there with an uneasy expression and looked to her from time to time after she answered her phone.
“Nanny Wang, is there anything you wanna tell me?”
“Miss Lim, I know I shouldn’t get off from work like this but I do have an emergency. I’ve just got a call from my family that my grandson is in hospital now. You see, can I go? I’ll not ask for the pay. If you need another help, I’ll see if some of my co-workers can do my job for you.”
Nanny Wang looked pretty worried. She was clearly aware that she left the position like this was not correct, especially the girl was still sick. If the employer had a bad temper, she might lose her job because of it. But she really had an emergency today.
Nanny Wang wept and dropped some tears in front of Jane.
The girl was very considerate and she beamed, “That’s okay, nanny. You can just go home. I’ve felt a lot better after having your porridge. Your kid needs you more than I do. Please leave.”
Nanny Wang looked her in the eyes with sincere gratitude and said, “Thank you, thank you miss... but as for Mr Chen...”
Nanny Wang couldn’t stop quivering as that young guy appeared in her mind.
It all started at the moment when she entered this bedroom.
The guy was sitting motionlessly by Jane’s bed, like a work of statute.
The man cast an extremely stern look to her as she made a slight sound when she closed the door behind her.
So the woman was not sure whether the guy would piss off if he knew that she went home early and left this girl all alone.
“Well, that’s fine. I’ll tell him about it. You may just leave.”
After hesitating for a moment, the elder lady made up her mind to go back to her own home as her son desperately needed her and the girl in front of her approved it.
Then she just reminded Jane to have her dinner--it was prepared and she could find it right on the kitchen table.
——
Later that night, Wayne Chen came back home and he found Jane was busy with her food in the kitchen.
With his right eyebrow slightly raised, he asked, “What are you doing? Where is the help?” The guy’s tone showed a sense of dissatisfaction.
Jane hadn’t expected him to come back this early and she just put the pot cover, turned to him and replied,
“Well, I let Nanny Wang left this afternoon for her grandson was sick. I’m feeling a lot better so I just feel like cooking something to eat.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I’m not a child, I can handle it.”
Wayne did not reply.
“Nanny Wang seemed to be truly anxious this afternoon and I then got to know that her grandson was in hospital and was really in need of her accompany. So I just told her to go.” Jane Lim uttered gently, she knew that Wayne was not in a good mood lately and she didn’t want to fight with him at this moment.
She stopped for a second, smiled to the guy and then continued,
“I know it was you that paid a nanny here to look after me. Now I’m just feeling well and I don’t need to be fully taken care of. Everybody has his or her urgency so I let her leave.”
The man didn’t uttered but took off his jacket and tossed it on the sofa.
Then Jane asked as the guy didn’t say a word, “Are you hungry? I cooked one of your favorite dishes. Just give it a try.”
“Oh, is that so?” Wayne Chen beamed while his tone gave a sense of sneer.
“Yeah, your favorite in these early years.” Jane was a little bit mad as the first dish she cooked was all consumed by Wayne and Henry within one minute and she even didn’t have a taste of it.
Back then, she began to have some interests in cooking and insisted on making a meal for these two guys.
Actually, Jane was not a good cooker that she turned the simple dish into a bowl of stew--but the guy always remembered the taste and ate all of it.
Wayne gave the girl a look, put on an apron and rolled up his sleeves.
“Just go. I don’t wanna feel sick for an entire week again.”
Jane was speechless.
She just shut her mouth as the guy insisted.
“Well, I thought you loved it.”
“Get out and close the door. I don’t wanna the odor of cooking contaminate the living room.”
Wayne took two pieces of steak and started to cook as the girl closed the door and left.
Through the glass door, Jane stared at the guy busy around the kitchen. She found the one was somewhat charming at this moment--as he leaned over to cook, his masculine chest could be seen under the white shirt; he was also like a magician as one dish after another, which would be truly praised by most women as they were brought out by his slender hands.
