Dalia leaned her head against the bus window staring at the passing buildings. Her light brown hair pulled back into a ponytail so it wouldn't get in her face. It was a cool summer day and she was on her way to an interview, an audition interview to be more specific.
She's wanted to be an actress since she was a little girl but she hasn't been very successful in her career since her accident.
Her parents refuse to tell her what happened but when she woke up a year of her life was gone from her memory and no matter hoe hard she tried, she couldn't recall any of it. The doctor said there was a chance that they'd return but after a certain amount of time passes that chance would go away.
She sat thinking about that missing year. -After next month I wont ever have a chance to get those memories back.- Dalia thought to herself. -How do I trigger them if I don't know what the triggers are.- She saw the building she was supposed to be in and realised that she missed her stop and pulled the string notifying the bus driver to stop.
Dalia quickly ran across the street hoping that this time she would have better luck. She waited in the lobby for her name to be called. Memorizing lines was never a problem so she didn't worry about that. Seeing that she was in an accident makes people think she cant move certain ways or at some point will forget the lines.
"Dalia Pate" she finally heard and followed a black haired woman down a hall to a small room with three people ready to judge.
"Good morning" she said as respectfully as she could. "Good morning miss pate. You're auditioning for the female lead is that correct?" the judge in the middle asked. "Yes sir"
"It says here that you've had a few side roles but nothing big, why is that?"
"Most people take my accident into consideration and don't believe I'll be able to do the role properly so they feel bad and give me a side role or background character instead."
"Well today is your lucky day. We'll only judge you based on your performance here today. The stage is yours miss Pate, start whenever you like."
Dalia hastily moved into character, she found that doing the facial expressions along with the movements were helpful in auditions. Just as long as it wasn't too dramatic.
When she finished she looked down, frightened. -If I look up and see that they were displeased, will I even be able to keep acting? This is a hard job to do.- Just then she heard clapping from one judge to two then three. She lifted her head after a couple of seconds to find them all smiling.
"That was wonderful miss Pate." the judge on the far right said. "Thank you miss." Dalia responded. "Well miss Pate, you had a lot of enthusiasm and you didn't mess up your lines nor did you skip a beat while performing the movements either. I can't promise anything but you've definitely got a chance." The middle one said. Then the man on the far left spoke. "We have your contact information and we'll call you if you got the job and if you didn't we'll mail you a letter so you're not hanging."
Dalia thanked all three of them and waited outside add the bus stop. She got home about an hour later where she found her brother and sister sitting on the front porch steps.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"Did ya get the job?" her sister asked. "I don't know yet." Dalia fumbled for her keys.
"Shouldn't you guys be in school?" she added. Her sister Emily was seventeen and a junior in high school. Her brother Jaxx was fourteen and a freshman in high school.
"Not on a teacher work day." Jaxx laughed. "And mom let you use the car?" Dalia asked Emily. "okay, she thinks we're at school but our lovely sister will let us stay here with her for a while wont she?"
"In your dreams." Dalia smirked "....unless you do the dishes." Jaxx looked at Emily and they communicated through their eyes, contemplating which was worse. Their mother wrath or dishes. There was no comparison, "we'll do em" they both said at the same time.
Dalia knew they would agree, there's nothing scarier then their mother when she's angry. Even if you weren't the one who caused her to be that way, you better stand clear.
They piled through the doorway into the clean house. Dalia wasn't messy but when it came to the dishes, she wondered why she didn't bother buying paper plates and plastic silverware.
Her siblings got started while Dalia threw some pizza rolls in the microwave for all of them to share. "Thanks sis!" Her brother called out while rinsing a white plate. "You missed a spot." Dalia laughed. "Go away!" Emily said flinging some bubbles at her older sister.
When they finished washing the dishes they all sat on the couch eating away. BZZZZ BZZZZ, "moms calling, you guys be quiet......hello."
"Have you seen your brother and sister?"
"Why, do you not know where they are?" Dalia said trying not to lie but also wondering how she knew they weren't at school. "I called the school to tell Emily I'll be at a friends house this weekend for a bachelorette party but they said there was no school for students today."
"They're over here so don't worry they're not doing drugs or anything. Are you leaving Emily in charge, you know there'll be a party the first night right?" Dalia said. Emily made a face that said *why are you ratting me out, seriously I just did your dishes*.
"Actually I was wondering if they could stay there, I'll pay you for it since its not your job anymore."
"No its fine. Just don't get too mad Emily lied about school, aren't you touched....she came to her sis's house." Dalia made it look like she was trying to cry tears of joy as Emily punched her in a sibling way. "Fine, but tell her if she ever does it again im taking her phone and I'll be driving her to school from now on."
"Gotcha, alright we're watching a movie so when its over ill send them back to pack."
After Dalia got off the phone Jaxx and Emily chased her with pillows. "Hey I defended y'all afterwards!" Then they sat and finished watching the movie.
