It was getting dark before evening. The clouds grew thicker, rolling with the strong wind; bare brunches were still swinging, lonely.
Cold wind struggled to slip into our bones—it wasn’t like spring at all. The moon hid behind clouds when it was not time to lighten the street lights. Yeah, the whole city was lightened up by headlights and neon.
Nick stood in front of the window, holding a wine glass. Behind him, the black turntable slowly rotated with elegant music coming out. You could only feel a chill here.
Everyone was on the way home except Nick; work caught him.
Nick had exerted himself to the project, but it didn’t work. Now he was waiting for Yolin to join him when she came back.
He hated being led by the nose, so tried to pick many talented individuals around the world and asked them to lead the team, but failed. Yolin was the last hope, if she refused, all the efforts were in vain.
Nick was deep in thought. Daytime was completely swollen by the rising darkness, the cold wind was screaming outside, just like the howling of monsters.
Tonight, Yolin would come back.
Rain poured just after the plane landed, making it a blurry city. Over ten hours of flying exhausted Yolin; the air mingled with a smell of soil—it had been three years, she finally stepped on the land.
It feels like a dream. I arrived in America in a deep sleep, but now come back, well-armed. So tired as two-year old Horace was, he could not control his excitement at his first arrival in China, looking around out of curiosity.
In his mind, motherland was nothing but a word from his mom, so he seemed to enter a huge amusement park. Super happiness.
“Is there any big ice cream here, Mommy?” Horace looked up with his eyes glistening, asked what he cared about as surrounded his arms to show “like this”.
“Of course! Whatever you want.”
Yoyo stroked his head and sighed it was so good to be an innocent kid to only care about how many sweets remained in the jar or whether the ice cream in the refrigerator had been eaten up by his mother.
Before arriving, Harry had arranged car and for them.
He looked for the hotel in the name of Yolin in order to be safe.
Horace sat on the car and kept looking out of the window, but the heavy rain fuzzed the window, he felt so boring that quickly fell asleep.
Yoyo felt mixed, during three years in America, she was a foreigner after all. Now she could finally get relieved.
She wanted to come back in secret, but unfortunately there were so many companies waiting for her. From the time she boarded the plane, e-mails were flooding into her mailbox.
Yoyo was too tired to read them; she emptied the box and had a rest.
Nick also got the news, he didn’t send any e-mail, however, since he knew it was useless for Yoyo.
Like a cheetah hid in the grass, with eyes fixed on her, Nick was waiting for the best time to catch his prey.
The house Harry arranged was not big but close to Yoyo’s studio.
Yoyo didn’t get to work at once, she felt that Horace’s adaptation to the new environment was far more important. Besides, education was also what she worried about. Fortunately, he was only two years old and could easily get used to it with mom’s company.
The next day, Yoyo couldn’t wait to take Horace to taste delicious food and wandered around.
In the evening, Harry went to the most prosperous night fair after work.
“Hi, can you give me a pancake?”
Held by Harry, Horace handed money to the seller, asking in a childish tone.
“What a happy family!” The seller took the money and continued to work.
Harry smiled awkwardly, then looked at Yoyo; but she avoided his eyes.
But Horace was a straightforward boy. “No, he’s not my dad, my mom once told me,” he said seriously. The seller immediately understood, embarrassedly smiled.
Horace quickly fell asleep on the way home, they felt strange in silence.
“You haven’t told him who’s his father?” Harry broke the ice.
“Not yet, it’s not a good time…”
Horace was too young to go to kindergarten, so Yoyo found a nice nursery for him because she was afraid couldn’t take care of him when getting to work.
After many investigations, she chose it, a nursery provided not only basic care but brain education.
With the help of Harry, Yoyo’s studio was prepared to get started. There was a grand commercial activity, and she had been well-known to China when she was in America.
Everyone was curious about the woman who never showed up. Of course, being invited as a VIP, Yoyo had no reason to refuse.
In early spring, it was sunny but cold in the morning. After preparing the things for Horace, she sent him to the trusteeship, and then went to work.
Yoyo chose Wende to cooperate first, probably because it could easily draw Nick’s attention since they were rivals.
The news she started to work was soon known by Nick. On hearing it, he told Hollinda to cancel other work and went to the dinner.
Hollinda was confused—Nick had never been interested in such a boring dinner party, so he made an appointment to sign an important contract with several foreign companies tonight. But now plans failed. Hollinda was worried about how to explain to them.
In Nick’s eyes, such dinners were nothing but a chance for treacherous merchants to admire each other. It was just a waste of time since those merchants would come to him. But today was different, his prey might show up and after waiting for a long time, he must seize the chance.
However, he didn’t expect the prey to be a trap.
When night fell, the top hall of the Deaho hotel was full of people. All of them were discussing what would the mysterious woman look like.
Before she could come, Nick was surrounded by a lot of people; they tried to toast and talk with him. If it wasn’t for Yolin, he would not have such a situation.
Elaine was very surprised to see Nick here and pushed the crowd to stand next to Nick.
“Dear, why did you come? I can attend it instead of you!” She held Nick’s arm happily—they hadn’t show up in public for a long time.
“Work has done. I come here to relax.” Nick replied. He didn’t love Elaine, but it was nice to have someone to attend parties for him, and better yet, she seemed to enjoy it.
“Well, you should tell me in advance, and then I can prepare a suit that matches my dress for you.” She said coquettishly, adjusted his tie.
At this time, door opened. Yoyo calmly stepped in with a customized dress. She raised eyes and looked straight at Nick; his wife was adjusting his suit. Looking at each other, Nick was shocked.
Having watched the photo for countless times, he could easily recognize her. Yoyo turned her head, walking to the center of the hall.
