“What’s the matter? Tell me about it.”
Wayne took a sip of his coffee and looked Lindsey Finn in the eyes.
“You see, Casso has never set up any branch offices in China but subcontracted some of its business here to other companies.”
“While due to the financial crisis over these years, its markets in Europe and the United States have been shrinking and the company designates me to do market research here for its future subsidiary in China.”
“And I’ll start with P&F for it’s your place.”
“Casso has always being wanting to make an acquisition of P&F. I’m not gonna let it happen.”
Wayne smiled. He’s not going to give in to anyone.
“Don’t be this confident. Your enemies are Casso’s future allies.” Lindsey cut his words.
“There’s a news says that you caused offence to All-star Group for a woman?”
“So what? That company will not survive long.” Wayne snorted.
“It’s not your style, Wayne. I know that girl may mean a lot to you. But P&F is built by me and you. Take the company into consideration and think twice before you woo other women.”
“I see, I see. Lindsey Finn, please stop rambling on, okay?
“Wow, now you do dare to complain about me!” Lindsey pretended to be pissed off by his comment, grabbed a cushion on the sofa and tossed it toward Wayne.
“Have lunch with me. I’ll pay. How about that?”
Wayne would only act like a naughty boy when he’s with Lindsey.
Sounds of them laughing sneaked the way into Jane’s room.
Then her cellphone sang--it was Susan Lee.
“Jane, what are you doing now?” Susan asked.
“Hey, I’m working.”
“I saw someone who looked really like you this morning. Are you working at P&F now?”
“Yeah, you know I have to work to earn money.”
Jane answered as she fiddled with a pen. She wanted to talk to a friend about what she had been going through recently, but she held the urge back as Susan was not trustworthy.
“Jane, you know what? I always regard you as my best friend. But I’m not happy that you keep some secrets from me. What’s going on between you and Wayne Chen? Why Jeff Nam says you’re Wayne’s toy girl?”
“Toy girl.” Jane frowned that she had never believed she would be relevant with these two words one day.
But the girl at the other end of the line was telling the truth.
“Susan, I have my work to finish now. I’ll call you later.” Jane hung up the phone with one quivering hand before her friend could give another word.
To some extent, Jane was turning a blind eye at her relationship with Wayne Chen. She managed to make her believe that she was his girlfriend. However, her feelings were ultimately hurt the moment when the title--toy girl--was deliberately put forward.
What’s more, Jane was even more depressed as she heard sounds of laughter in the next room.
