Sean had a long dream. He dreamed of the scattered chalk dust on the platform, a boy waiting patiently for him to go home with his schoolbag on his shoulder, a large stretch of flowers his grandfather raised in the yard on the day his grandfather departed this life, and himself, who choked with sobs on the empty corridor of the hospital which was a vast expanse of white and desperation.
The boy with the schoolbag had grown up, and this time it was Sean waiting for him to come back. The flowers in the flowerbed withered away, and Sean swore that he would never raise flowers in the future .
When Sean woke up, it was already dark. He opened the bedroom door, feeling dizzy. There was no light in the living room, which was suffused with smoke. William stood by the French window, smoking. Flaring. The butts accumulated in the ashtray.
"I've told you to quit smoking." Sean said in a hoarse voice.
William paused, subconsciously put out the butts: "Sorry."
Sean turned on the light: "You always smoke when you are upset."
"What's bothering you?" Sean sat down, looking far into the distance in a trance with his forehead against the French window.
William smiled and bent down to touch the top of his hair."Don't worry. It's something in work."
Sean did not say anything anymore, having a dizzy spell. The snow-white blanket under him was stained by drops of blood. Sean did not react for a while. He stuck out two fingers to touch the pool of blood, but the blood flowed faster because he lowered his head.
William hissed loudly when seeing it, and stretched out his arms to block the ceaseless blood.
"What are you thinking about? Look up! Come on! Raise your head!" William went anxious, squatting down to let Sean lie supine on his legs. His hands and clothes were sticky with blood.
It took a long time to stop the blood. William picked him up to the bathroom to have a wash, carefully adjusting an appropriate water temperature.
"Why have a sudden nosebleed?"
Sean frowned. His lips went pale out of excessive loss of blood: " It's too dry in the room."
"The northern winters are dry and cold. Tomorrow I'll get someone to buy a humidifier for you." William washed Sean's face, and as Sean's clothes was stained with some blood either, he wanted to take off his clothes to take a shower with him together, while he was pushed away then.
Sean had an intense reaction, clutching his collar after pushing Sean away. His nails even turned pan-green out of his strong strength.
William was stunned: "What's wrong?" He was a little embarrassed, a little inexplicable aggrieved, and a little confused. "Your clothes are dirty."
"I'll do it myself." Sean didn't see him, showing an appearance of resistance.
William turned sulky and said coldly:"It is so dirty and smells of blood. I have no interest."
Sean knew that he had misunderstood, but he didn't say anything, just seeing William clean his hands silently and then go out of the bathroom. He heard the door slam shut after 5 minutes. William had left.
It was fine. Anyone outside was more interesting and judicious than him, so William actually had no need to hold back his temper and deign to serve him then. Sean slowly took off his clothes, whose arms were covered with dense pinholes, one by one, which even formed into a large expanse of blue on them.
He felt a little frightened as he held himself in the warm water of the bathtub. He felt it might be the time to make some decisions such as where to stay at the end of his life. No matter where he died, it was troublesome enough. If he died at home and no one found him after ten days or half a month, he must looked so ill-favored. He would be sorry if he scared William that day.
Sean suddenly laughed after thinking about it for a while. It was the first time that he felt that the death process of people was not difficult, while the follow-up things after the death were really baffling.
Sean went a little weak by the hot water. He did not take the bath for a long time, while wiped his body and got up when he still had some strength. Putting on the thick pajamas carefully, he felt much warmer.
The sitting room still reeked of the smoke which had not dissipated completely. The odour was not foul-smelling, while it made Sean dazed and painful.
Sean found himself forget to take medicine all day when he had a headache, so he forced himself to boil water and take medicine. His stomach ached for a long time when he swallowed down a handful of pills.
Sean lay on the sofa, waiting for the medicine to work. The kittens played around him, with their small claws scratching Sean, which made him itchy and limp.
Hearing the key opening the door, Sean thought it was an illusion. He didn't react until the man stood in front of him, wearing a saturnine face.
"Stop playing with the kittens. Wash your hands to eat some food." William said with still a cold face, but he should have bought back some food after strolling outside for a while.
"Fried pork liver. Enrich your blood." William poured the dishes into the plates. His tone was lukewarm, while his brows and eyes were tender.
Sean sat beside the table, lost in thought. It occured to him that William never really got mad at him and snubbed him for such trifles in the past.
