“You are the heroine in this play! That’s great!” Jeffery looked at me with surprise.
I was on the point of explaining when a particularly unfriendly voice burst in.
“The heroine? Humph! I am exactly the heroine of Xiao Feng Cuo! Who dares to take my place?!” I looked back. Isn’t that Yuki Zheng? It is exactly her. I thought Jeffery and I were enemies before, didn’t expect that Yuki was my enemy in fact.
Yuki stepped on high heels and swaggered forward, towering over me and looking at me up and down. Clearly seeing my face, she did shock and asked with surprise and a little scare, “How come you are here?!”
I sneered, “Oh, so you must be the heroine stuck in the road!”
At this point, the anxious little girl in the dressing room rushed over. “For god’s sake, my dear Yuki, here you are at last!”
“Started yet?” Yuki quickly inquired.
Her assistant looked a little aggrieved, answered, “It’s over. The deputy director came to urge several times just now. At last, there was no way but to let Mary take your place temporarily…”
“What?” Yuki asked in surprise, “Can’t you explain it to Director Zhang? Damn, you’re just a good-for-nothing bum!”
The assistant felt wronged because of the deputy director a moment ago, and now Yuki blamed her for not explaining to the director. Therefore, her eyes brimmed with tears, simply left Yuki to scold, without uttering a word.
At last, seeing there were so many people around and considering her own image, Yuki restrained her anger and asked, “Who replaced me? Mary what? Mary Yang? Right? Who is she?”
The assistant did not dare to offend me and at the same time was afraid of Yuki Zheng, so she hurried to signal in my direction and lower her head quickly, for fear that I was a termagant just like Yuki.
Yuki turned to me and looked at me up and down again, said, “It seems I completely underestimated you! Mary Yang, right? How dare you? Taking my place in the ceremony and even stand in my position!? And now, look at you, how arrogant?!”
“It’s you who are arrogant now, I’m afraid.” Jeffery somehow stood in my way. Before I could speak, he answered. It was definitely beyond my expectation that he stood forward and helped me.
So did Yuki. She felt surprised as well. Puzzled as she was, Yuki actually knew Jeffery’s status in the showbiz now. Moreover, it’s rumored all the time that Yuki was crushing on Jeffery but had no chance to express.
“Hey, Jeffery. I’m just so anxious, you know.” Yuki quickly explained, “see, I’m just a few minutes late because of the traffic, but they find an unknown woman to replace me to the opening ceremony and even stand in my position. Don’t they afraid of the audience rat(ing)…”
Speaking of that, Yuki’s agent hurriedly tugged at her dress beside her. Luckily Yuki was sensible, or it would make the director group so angry when these words came out that Yuki’s performance would probably be reduced.
Obviously, Jeffery didn’t care about Yuki’s explanation, he said, “Wait. It’s you who was late, please stop complaining about others. Besides, I suppose it’s better to let Mary take over your position than to leave it empty!”
While Yuki was on the point of arguing, the deputy director came up and said, “Yuki, you finally came. We’re going crazy! What’s going on? 8:18, how many times did I pound into you? Director Zhang minds the time a lot…”
Before he finished, Yuki continued to say, “Director, what’s the matter? I have asked my assistant to explain to you that I got stuck in a traffic jam. Can’t you just wait for me for a little while? Not to mention that, you even find Mary or what to take my position? What is she? A child actor? Do you think it’s right to do that? At least find someone decent…”
I was displeased with her words. What have I done? But for the deputy director’s ask, who wanna stand in her position?!
“What’s wrong with Mary?” I looked back, it was Director Zhang. He somehow stood next to us. I nodded to him in a hurry, and he also nodded slightly, said to Yuki, “at least Mary has acting skills and won’t be late. That’s enough for me.”
Yuki didn’t expect that Director Zhang would appear at this time. In front of Director Zhang, she naturally dared not to be arrogant any more. She could only said, “Director Zhang, I’m so sorry. You know, I didn’t mean to. But I’m the heroine of this play, you easily got a random assistant to replace my position. Is that all right?”
“Assistant?” Director Zhang took a look at me and asked Yuki, doubtfully, “who told you she is an assistant? She is the second leading actress of this play! I selected her layer upon layer by myself! And her scenes is second only to yours, I think it’s OK for her to stand in your position.”
Director Zhang was famous for his had temper and ruthless in the showbiz. I worked with him once before, and he even yelled at an actress till she cried. This time, his attitude towards Yuki was kind enough.
However, Yuki just didn’t appreciate it but continued to question, “Director Zhang, what is ‘it’s OK’? This play is especially made for me! I’m the heroine exactly!”
“Especially made for you?” Director Zhang seemed amazed. He turned to Yuki’s agent and asked with a little anger, “Amy, that’s how you convey the information to you artists?”
Amy hurried to bend down to apologized, “Calm down, Director Zhang! It’s my fault.”
But Director Zhang didn’t appear to accept it and went on to say, “I customized this play especially for Shirley. But now she is gone, so did Yuki take it.”
