It was Saturday the next day.
Before Veronica came back to the Rou house, Jasper had made an appointment with her to go hiking.
In the suburban area of Aron City, there was a mountain called the Lovers.
Rumor had it that the couple who successfully reached the top of the mountain would spend the rest of their life happily.
Early in the morning, Anna woke up at first and pulled Veronica out from her warm quilt. "Hurry up, sweetie. You and Jasper have a date today," she called softly. Then like always, she had Veronica sit down in front of the dresser and began to dress her daughter up. Again, she made Veronica dress like a delicate princess.
She chose a silk pink pouf dress for Veronica.
There were laces circling around the cuffs. They were delicately sewed with dense stitches. Staring at the dress, Veronica felt her heart twitch badly. She almost could not breathe any air in.
Here it was, again.
The pink.
Going hiking was a tiring activity. Normally, a mother would choose sneakers which were more comfortable and convenient for her daughter in such a situation. However, Anna did not. Instead, she picked up a pair of glass slippers.
They were different from the ones Veronica wore yesterday. They were crystal clear stilettos. Veronica couldn't help feeling scared when she saw the high thin heels. What if she happened to be tripped up by some rock during the way? Would she fall down the mountain?
Crystal, the 'real princess', was also free this day.
She studied in the same university and in the same class as Veronica. She made good grades in school.
Veronica invited her to go hiking and she was gladly agreed as she would always do.
Jasper pulled the car door open on the side of the passenger seat like gentlemen and said to Veronica in a tender tone, "Get inside, please, Veronica."
Holding her small delicate handbag, Veronica looked at Crystal with a smile. "Crystal, I've heard that you would be easily caught by the car sickness. Why don't you sit in the front?"
As a matter of fact, Crystal did not get car-sick easily. Veronica said those words on purpose. She was offering her a chance because she knew Crystal would definitely take the chance and sit in the passenger seat. She knew that Crystal wanted to be close to Jasper.
Jasper felt a bit awkward now. But still, he remained a gentleman. Crystal felt shy. She nodded slightly before looking at Jasper with expectant eyes.
Now that it was Veronica's idea to have Crystal sit in the front, Jasper decided to accept this arrangement. He bent forward slightly and reached out his hand. "Please, Crystal."
Crystal walked towards him and got inside the car. Before she entered, she took a glance at Veronica.
There were shyness and guilt in her eyes.
Veronica, of course, noticed it from the corner of her eye. The smile on her face widened. Then, she pulled the rear door open and slide in without saying a word to Jasper. Jasper stood outside and stared at her the whole process when she did this. He seemed to be stunned by her behavior.
Jasper let out a bitter smile. He ignored Crystal in the passenger seat and sat next to Veronica. Wrapping her hand in his, he asked softly, "Why? Are you angry with me? Talk to me."
Jasper's hands were warm. Veronica remembered that she always held his hand because of its warmness. It made her feel safe. It was so tender just like its master. But that was her thought in her past life.
But now, all she felt was sickness. Her stomach felt so sick with every passing second when her hand was wrapped in his. Discreetly, she pulled her hand away from his and tapped his forehead in a seemingly naughty way. "No, I'm not being angry. I just want to get inside the car quickly. We should hurry up now. Otherwise, probably we won't make it arrive at the mountain by noon."
Jasper did not feel anything wrong. Veronica was a good actress. She behaved quite normally and Jasper did not detect anything unusual.
That excuse was extremely reasonable.
Veronica always cared for others. It was just normal for her to be considerate enough to let Crystal sit in the passenger seat.
Crystal, sitting in the passenger seat, stared at the loving couple, her fingers grasping the seat so tightly that they paled helplessly.

After he was done comforting Veronica, he went back to the driver seat and started the engine. Crystal looked at him with affectionate eyes. She was showing her feelings for him so obviously that even a fool could see through her.
Hiding in the back seat, Veronica took out her phone and sent a message to Harrison.
How stupid she was in her past life! It was more than obvious that Crystal liked Jasper so much. However, she was head over heels in love with Jasper so that she turned blind to Crystal and did not recognize her feelings for him.

It was quite tiring to climb a mountain, even though only for recreation.
What was worse, Veronica was wearing a pair of high heels.
Jasper looked at Veronica's pale face, worry written all over his face. "Veronica, let me help you. Come on, I'll carry you on my back."
A smile spread on Veronica's face. She said in an innocent tone, "No, Jasper. You know, we have to reach the top by ourselves so that we can live a happy life for the rest of our lives. If you carry me on your back, that is cheating."
Crystal also wore a pair high heels today. She liked the color of white. However, she was poor and couldn't afford any expensive dress. The cheap white dress made her look rather fragile. Her delicate and charming face gave the impression of being unwell and in need of looking after.
Veronica's eyes were full of worry. She turned her eyes to Jasper and said, "Look at her. She looks so tired. Go and help her, please."
Jasper was confused. "How…?"
The corners of Veronica's lips lifted upwards. "Carry her on you back."
